POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Manager, Continuous Improvement Engineer will be responsible to lead the maturation and sustainment of the Pharmacy Operating System and delivery of optimized  processes, in both automated and manual dispensing operations; that provide enhanced quality, service levels, engagement, throughput capacity, and cost performance for the Evernorth Fulfillment / Dispensing Network. Responsibilities include providing direction and leadership to a team of Continuous Improvement Professionals focused on supporting the Fulfillment Operations teams and Operating Model – Visual Management / Tiered Accountability, Leader Standard Work, Focused Improvement, Through-put Optimization, and People Development / Engagement. This position is also expected to drive improvement initiatives through project identification/support, business case development, event facilitation, project management and benefit/result realization. This leader drives consistency across our automated and manual Fulfillment Network and sites through the Pharmacy Operating Model, and process alignment as appropriate.   This role ensures core principles of employee engagement, waste elimination, continuous improvement and member experience are improved while continuously aligning to the overall pharmacy strategy. 

This position is in-office aligned and will require the flexibility to perform onsite 3 days per week at a designated facility.

Primary Functions

  • Drive the maturation and sustainment of the Pharmacy Operating System as a main priority to support the Evernorth Fulfillment / Dispensing Strategy for our automated and manual operations
  • Drive the on-going identification and execution of continuous improvement opportunities to improve quality, patient service, cost to fill, productivity, and throughput capacity.
  • Work closely with Fulfillment leaders and Work Stream Sponsors/Owners, who are responsible for executing business line strategies and setting visionary objectives and priorities.
  • Coach, mentor and develop a team of CI Professionals, ensuring proficiency in application of continuous improvement event facilitation, and project management tools and methodologies.
  • Highly organized, able to work with limited direct supervision, motivated to successfully meet deadlines, attention to detail.
  • Recognized as a key Champion of Change across Evernorth Fulfillment Operations, ensuring that process improvement activity is communicated, supported, and celebrated within the organization.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to ensure participation and buy in from all levels of leadership in order to successfully implement improved processes.
  • Allocate the necessary resources (people, investment) to guide the transformation process at the Enterprise/Work Stream level using a multifunctional approach.
  • Define a project structure for experienced CI staff to lead the transformation with detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, and status reports.
  • Establish regular follow-up processes to revise at the highest level of the organization the implementation status and achievement of results.
  • Apply effective controls, ensuring that process improvements are sustained.
  • Responsible for enabling Pharmacy Operations Cost, Member Experience, and Quality targets.
  • Stakeholder, partner and influence CI professionals that are within other parts of the organization.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Manufacturing, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • At least 8 years of experience in the development and execution of advanced, complex process engineering/continuous improvement initiatives; experience in pharmacy, manufacturing, production or related industry preferred.
  • Ability to develop a strategy/ vision and lead a team of CI professionals from multiple CI disciplines while being flexible in approach.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills, with the ability to clearly communicate vision to senior leaders.
  • Ability to manage change, timelines, and balance multiple deadlines in a very fast paced environment.
  • Ability to establish strong relationships both internally and externally to pharmacy operations.
  • Coaching and mentoring and driving a vision for continuous improvement.
  • Proficient with CI methodology – including, but not limited to: Visual Management, Value Stream Mapping, Root Cause Corrective Action, Kaizen, A3, Standard Work Instructions, Standard Operating Procedures, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, DMAIC etc.
  • Developing Quality Management Systems with integrated Policies, Procedures and Standard Work preferred.
  • Developing and delivering continuous improvement “Teach and Do” Modules and Tool Kit.
  • Program and Project Management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally in often ambiguous situations to solve complex problems and improve quality and member experience.
  • PC skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Project, Visio, SharePoint.
  • Anticipated travel expectation of 25-30%.
