Job Description
Fugro are recruiting for a Senior Geophysicist to join our world-leading geophysical survey department based at our waterfront office in Portchester on the UK’s south coast. As a Senior Geophysicist, you will be responsible for processing geophysical data on a wide variety of projects, leading processing teams in the field and working with the Project Geophysicist to deliver industry-leading data to our clients.
This is an excellent opportunity for you to gain exposure to a variety of projects working in a range of markets (including renewables, UXO, pipeline inspection) and processing different geophysical data types. The role will combine time based at our offices in Portchester, offshore on Fugro vessels or at our Remote Operation Center (ROC), working at the forefront of marine geophysical science.

Who you’ll be working with:
You'll collaborate closely with various members of the project team, including the client, Project Manager, vessel crew, and fellow geophysicists. You'll report directly to the Project Geophysicist, ensuring seamless communication and coordination throughout the project.
Here’s what a typical week would be like:
- Analysing and interpreting geophysical data from various sources, such as sub-bottom profilers, side scan sonar, and magnetometers, to extract meaningful information about subsurface and seafloor conditions.
- Ensuring high-quality data throughout all phases of the project, including acquisition, processing, interpretation, and reporting, to provide accurate and reliable deliverables
- Potential for trips offshore or to our ultra-modern Remote Operations Centre (ROC), where responsibilities include assisting with mobilizations and demobilizations, processing offshore data, conducting data coverage checks, and creating infill line plans.
- Leading processing teams to deliver high data quality at all phases throughout the project life cycle.
- Supervising and assisting with vessel mobilisations and demobilisations where required;
- Training, coaching and mentoring other members of the team.
Who we’re looking for:
Essential
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geophysics or closely related subject with 3 to 8 years of experience;
- A strong knowledge and experience of marine geophysical survey techniques, in relation to both data acquisition, processing and interpretation;
- Good verbal and written English language skills;
- An ability to communicate clearly with colleagues and clients;
- Confidence working under pressure to tight deadlines;
- A high attention to detail, quality and safety.
- Confidence to undertake QC of data or reports, and accept or reject data where required;
- Experience in Oasis montaj, SonarWiz, Kingdom Suite, ArcGIS Pro.
Desirable
- Prior management and supervision experience;
- Experience in training, coaching and mentoring others;
- Offshore/practical experience in oil and gas, ocean science, renewables and/or survey industries.
- Able to work offshore or in the ROC for periods of up to 4 weeks;
