About the Team:
The Fund Accounting team is a high performing team responsible for the internal fund administration for several Mutual Fund Trusts and Limited Partnerships.
Purpose of the Role:
We are looking for a Senior Fund Accountant to join a high-performing and growing team within the firm, responsible for the administration and operations of a diverse portfolio of proprietary mutual funds and Limited Partnerships.
Reporting to the Director, Fund Accounting, you will work closely within the team, as well as with a number of other internal departments and external service providers, to increase efficiencies and strive for continuous improvement and excellence in our day-to-day deliverables.
This is a hybrid role located in Vancouver or Toronto.
Core Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed oversight of our external fund administrator by reviewing NAVs on a daily basis and reconciling discrepancies.
- Review reasonableness of income/expense accruals (including management and performance fees) and facilitate payment of invoices.
- Review distribution calculations and monitor non-resident withholding tax payments.
- Act as the primary point of contact for assigned funds and LP’s daily operation.
- Assist the manager with the year-end audit review process by leading the engagement to ensure timely sign-off of the funds’ financial statements.
- Involvement in the tax slip cycle, ensuring all clients’ T3, T5013, NR4, and RL-16 slips are free from misstatement and are distributed in a timely manner.
- Assist our tax department in tax initiatives (GST/HST, US Tax Return, PFIC) with our tax advisors and ensure they are filed in a timely manner.
- Calculation of the funds’ estimated fund expense ratio.
- Assist on new fund launches and restructurings.
- Build up a strong understanding of the unique characteristics of our funds and become a subject matter expert within the company on technical fund-related matters.
- Build and maintain excellent working relationships with external service providers, including our fund administrator, custodian, auditor, tax advisor, external legal counsel etc.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of related work experience with broad knowledge of fund administration or audit/tax experience from public practice.
- Exposure to various asset classes (including private equity and real estate) and fund structures (specifically Mutual Fund Trusts and LPs).
- Undergraduate degree and accounting designation (CPA).
- An understanding of Canadian and US Tax compliance would be considered an asset.
- Highly proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Essential to be fluent in English, both written and verbal.
Compensation & Benefits Package:
This position comes with a base salary range of $80,000 - $105,000 plus a competitive performance bonus, RRSP contribution and participation in our profit-sharing program. Base salary will be commensurate with experience, skills, and qualifications.
