About Density:
Density’s mission is to measure and improve our footprint on the world.
We help companies understand how their workplaces are used. We do that by observing behavior in the office through our highly accurate and always anonymous sensors. In other words: where are people actually spending their time? We translate that data into actionable, opinionated insights that help companies increase the financial and experiential performance of any workplace.
Today, we work with companies from Fortune 500s to high growth innovators in technology, financial services and healthcare, occupying more than a billion square feet worldwide. And we’re in it for the long game: what if we knew more, created better spaces, and could build cities that worked and felt better?
That’s where you come in...
The Opportunity:
As a key engineer on our team, you’ll lead the charge in building cutting-edge web applications and APIs that power the next generation of workplace experiences. Imagine creating software that transforms how people interact with their environments, using real-time sensor data to help users navigate offices, understand space utilization, and optimize their workday. You’ll develop innovative solutions that blend IoT, spatial intelligence, and intuitive interfaces to redefine how people experience modern workplaces. Success in this role means your work will not only enhance productivity but also reshape how we think about workspaces, pushing the boundaries of what technology can do for human-centered design.
In this role you will:
- Lead the development of fullstack web applications, writing clean, efficient, and scalable code in Go, React, and Python, with a focus on both frontend and API development.
- Ensure code quality with comprehensive unit testing and follow best practices in testing and automation to maintain a reliable and maintainable codebase.
- Manage branching, merging, and release workflows using Git, leveraging advanced Git techniques to keep development cycles smooth and efficient.
- Design, build, and automate deployment pipelines using GitHub Actions to ensure seamless and reliable continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD).
- Work within the Amazon Web Services (AWS) environment, managing cloud infrastructure, writing deployment scripts, and utilizing AWS services to optimize performance and scalability.
- Collaborate closely with business and product stakeholders to understand pain points and opportunities, and translate them into innovative software solutions that drive value for customers.
- Tackle complex problems and unknowns with confidence, acting as a capable generalist who can adapt and contribute across the tech stack and jump into new challenges as they arise.
- Participate in code reviews, mentoring junior developers, and contributing to the overall architecture and technical direction of the team.
- Work cross-functionally within a tight-knit team, ensuring alignment with product vision and delivering features that enhance the overall user experience.
The ideal candidate will have:
- 5+ years of proven fullstack development experience with a strong command of:
- React
- Python
- ideally Go, particularly in building web applications and APIs demonstrated professionally
- Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure, especially within the AWS ecosystem (e.g., EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS), with experience in deploying and scaling applications in a cloud environment.
- Proficiency in modern frontend development with React and TypeScript, demonstrating a strong ability to build intuitive, responsive interfaces while maintaining a keen focus on user experience.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, comfortable taking on unfamiliar challenges and adapting quickly to new technologies or problems.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, able to work cross-functionally with business stakeholders, product teams, and other developers to translate business needs into software solutions.
- A self-starter and generalist mindset, capable of wearing multiple hats in a smaller company environment, and willing to tackle tasks outside your primary skill set when necessary.

What We Do
At Density, we believe cities would look different if they knew how they were used. Understanding our relationship with physical space empowers us to reimagine what the built environment can be.
11,370 new buildings are being built every day and 39% of global carbon emissions come from existing buildings. If we want to build a more productive, sustainable future, we have to measure all those buildings. We work with the Fortune 1000 to measure and improve their offices, buildings, and portfolios. Density’s data creates more efficient and productive workplaces for people and the planet.
We’re on a mission to measure and improve our footprint on the world.
