Front-end Engineer in financial markets transaction reporting

ING is looking for a Front-end Engineer with experience in building robust, efficient, and user-friendly web applications. You will work in the regulatory reporting domain of financial markets and will be part of an Agile team. You are a team player and always look for ways on how to improve.

As a front-end engineer, you will be involved in developing a new application that is not yet live. You will play a key role in conceptualizing, designing, and building the web application to support various stakeholders. This application will not only provide robust capabilities but will also adhere to the latest standards. We are thrilled to have someone like you join our team. We expect you to drive technological decision-making, collaborate with fellow engineers, and build a website that supports business needs while offering strong reporting capabilities for CxOs at ING.

What you will do

As a member of the engineering team, you will deliver robust web apps and sites as directed by business constraints while respecting controls. As the engineer, you are expected to:

• Deliver features while meeting quality criteria and project constraints
• Ensure alignment to Architect roadmaps and strategies
• Meet service levels for systems (availability, security, and performance)
• Understands deeply about the modern web platform, especially web components, progressive web apps
• Critical attention to detail about code, efficiency, and design
• Has strong problem-solving ability and strong analytical skills
• Develop and maintain standards of software development and components where applicable Identify and reduce technical debt
• Mentor & coach other developers in their learning & development
• Be able to work alone or with others as needs dictate
• Take ownership of all assigned tasks
• Take ownership of systems and services assigned in production
• Be proactive in promoting ‘Best Practices’
• Be available for out of hours support as required
• Has experience working in an agile development lifecycle
• Communication (written/verbal) to be well developed and of a professional standard
• Can liaise with a broad range of people, including line management, senior management, Product owners, and related people

• You are passionate about front-end technologies and continuously stay informed about new trends and developments.

• You advocate for Test Driven Development and write robust unit tests and integration tests to ensure high code coverage.
• Strong expertise in front-end development, particularly with Web Components (or a modern frontend framework), LitHtml / LitElement, ShadowDOM, NPM, Yarn, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Hands-on experience designing and building user interfaces with an emphasis on performance, usability, and responsiveness.
• Working knowledge of version control systems (Git), build tools (Maven), and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps).
• Familiarity with back-end integration and REST-JSON APIs to ensure seamless interaction between front-end and back-end services.
• Understanding of front-end performance optimization techniques like lazy loading, code splitting, and caching strategies.
• Experience with browser-based testing tools and front-end performance testing to ensure optimized user experiences.
• Familiarity with front-end monitoring tools to track and improve application performance and stability.
