At CACI, we specialize in the design, development, and manufacturing of complex, state-of-the-art sensors and communication systems for military, space, and commercial applications. Our products include free space optical communications system, optical sensing systems, and RF photonics. We are currently looking for an experienced FPGA developer to take ownership of the firmware architecture and development for future space systems.
The Opportunity:
- Close collaboration with the System Architecture team on firmware requirements and architecture
- Ownership of the detailed firmware architecture, development timeline and delegation of tasks within the team
- Selection and integration of complex licensed IP cores in Xilinx Versal class FPGAs and SOCs, and MicroChip, PolarFire SOCs
- Participation in hardware component selection decisions, coordination with software team on SOC architecture, and design reviews
- Development and testing of communication and sensing systems incorporating digital, analog, fiber optic and free space optic components, electro-optic modulators, lasers and photo-detectors
- Debugging designs in the laboratory in close collaboration with hardware and software engineers utilizing basic laboratory tools and advanced tools (Spectrum Analyzer, protocol analyzer, etc.) as needed
- Create and present detailed presentations for customer and internal reviews that include design analysis, resource and power estimates
Qualifications:
Required:
- BSEE or MSEE in Electrical, Computer or Software Engineering
- 7+ years of work experience leading complex firmware developments from concept through system test and release
- Expertise developing firmware for complex mixed signal environments (equal parts analog and high speed digital)
- Experience implementing modem fundamental components (coding schemes, CDRs, high speed serial links, clock domain management, and DDR)
- Development with VHDL and System Verilog, git-based source control and automated build and test environments
- Proficiency with the AMD Xilinx Vivado toolchain
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated and self-directed, requiring little supervision
Desired:
- Design background in physical layer for telecommunication or photonic systems
- Experience developing for space environments (SEU mitigation, TMR, ECC, etc)
- Experience with Python/TCL scripting for automation and test development
- Experience working in Agile development environments and code verification tools
- Experience with free space and/or fiber optics

Pay Range: There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:
$94,400 - $198,300
