How you’ll shape the future of the Environmental Dept:

  • Subject matter expert for plant environmental permitting/reporting requirements and projects for waste/wastewater.
  • Lead, coordinate, and provide in-depth environmental support to large scale projects.
  • Train and coach teams on environmental best practices.
  • Conduct analysis of complex environmental problems and propose solutions while considering environmental impacts and ensure adequate environmental compliance.
  • Actively support and participate in safety initiatives to prevent injuries, eliminate hazards, and improve housekeeping. Assist in the response to emergency situations involving protection of personnel, equipment, facilities, and environment. Keep appropriate plant management apprised of emergency situations.
  • Provide knowledge in sampling, reporting, and training associated with regulatory permits, specifically NPDES Wastewater/Landfill, SWPPP Stormwater, Consumptive Use, RCRA solid/hazardous waste, and Groundwater Monitoring. Manage day-to-day Aerated Stabilization Basin operations and optimization. Work with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies to maintain and obtain permits.
  • Develop and implement Environmental Management Systems (EMS) processes, procedures, and programs to ensure plant compliance with environmental permits, regulations, company policies, and other requirements.
  • Compile and assess testing, sampling, and continuous monitoring data required for environmental compliance reports to Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other regulatory agencies.  Compile Discharge Monitoring Reports.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies during inspections and other routine requests. Establish, write, and communicate programs and policies to comply with regulatory programs. Perform and document various mill environmental compliance inspections.  Perform special monitoring tasks on the water treatment system. Schedule, coordinate, and perform river surveys as required.
  • Inspect environment system equipment, plant processes, landfill operations, and solid waste disposal, etc. for proper operation and environmental compliance. Assist in laboratory ISO audits. Perform internal audit to maintain NELAC certification for environmental laboratory.
  • Review Continuous Emissions Monitor Systems (CEMS) data daily and maintain/generate CEMS reports as required. Assist in managing stack testing program. Assist in managing Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) program.
  • Participate in the on-call weekend duty rotation, approximately every six/eight weeks.
  • Assist in the management of the mill industrial landfill and contractors who haul waste. Assist in managing the Chemical Review Program, Evaluate the Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) and other pertinent information on all new chemicals brought on site and fill in the New Chemical Management forms accordingly. Maintain Release Notification Manual (RNM) to ensure up-to-date emergency procedures. Maintain Hazwoper Certification.
  • Lead projects to support the project engineering department. Prepare cost estimates, equipment evaluations, project appropriation requests (PAR's), and designs for many projects ranging from minor equipment alterations to major capital improvements.

You’ll be someone who can bring:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering – Environmental or Civil preferred
  • 5-10 years Engineering experience.  Strong preference for experience with environmental and wastewater.  Experience managing engineering related projects is mandatory.
  • Must have specialized knowledge of one or more areas in environmental, pulp manufacturing, equipment and process design, plant maintenance practices and project management.  Must be able to take a project from inception to completion with minimal supervision.  Must be capable of providing technical assistance and direction to interdisciplinary engineering personnel.
