The Role
The Quality and Automation team is essential in guiding Square's Automation Engineering division to deliver, reliable experiences for Square's customers by investing in test automation. The team develops a cohesive set of frameworks and tools to allow teams to monitor and improve the experiences of both sellers and buyers on a large-scale. Additionally, the team monitors for signs of business or engineering issues and leads cross-functional teams to resolve these challenges.
As a Senior Engineering Manager on the Automation team, you will lead a team focused on investing in automation frameworks across mobile applications and the web. We enhance the coverage and build infrastructure for test automation for Square's mobile apps and web platforms. We also develop tools and processes to enable engineering teams to collect and prioritize work using automation data, metrics, and analytics.

You Will

  • Lead a foundational, multidisciplinary team of iOS, Android, and web automation engineers, working on projects with significant impact across the company. Define a compelling vision for the Square Automation engineering team to enhance the performance and reliability of our products.
  • Build an outstanding organization by recruiting exceptional talent, coaching your team, fostering principled and collaborative engineering decision-making, and leveraging your technical expertise to maintain high standards.
  • Oversee the success of your team's products by setting and achieving measurable goals. Collaborate and establish strong, long-term strategic partnerships with various stakeholders across the company, including product, design, legal, support, and other engineering teams.
  • Work closely with your technical leads to prioritize effectively and expand the team to meet objectives. Guide, organize, and communicate the team's quarterly objectives and achievements. Mentor engineers and support their career development aspirations.


You Have

  • Over 12 years of industry experience, including 4+ years in managing software engineering teams.
  • Experience leading and building teams of accomplished software engineers.
  • Proven leadership and collaboration skills with colleagues across different teams and locations.
  • Provide technical mentorship and career guidance to team members.
  • Experienced in software development or test automation on Android and/or iOS, using both off-the-shelf and custom tools to enhance application performance and reliability.
  • Worked on tools or software development for the web.
  • Successfully deliver large platform initiatives or features over a year-long period with strong collaboration, communication, and ownership.
  • Experience working with engineering leaders and cross-functional teams.
