Ameresco has a current opportunity for a Senior Engineering and Development Lead based remotely to partner with our West Regional Renewable Energy Group.  This position will be a leadership asset to the team for the development managers, business development and engineering teams.  This role will encompass commercial scale Solar PV photovoltaic projects as well as leading the team in adoption of new technology developments in product offerings across the United States. This includes responsibility for quality and review over technical diligence deliverables and working with various internal departments to enable successful implementation of new technologies and products including but not limited to energy storage.  The position is responsible for both personally working on and managing internal and external engineering resources associated with designated projects. This position will work with internal departments to successfully role out new technology products, services, and will work with vendors to ensure industry appropriate solutions are available for offer by Ameresco.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide technical Engineering Team leadership, management, and guidance for projects, including development, construction, commissioning, operations and maintenance support.
  • Coordinate with Regional Team on resources required to develop baseline and energy savings calculations, provide engineering support for measurement and verification performance audits and reporting, support operations troubleshooting as appropriate for project performance.
  • Collaborate with Construction Team to assure total quality and project delivery on time and within budget while meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
  • Plan, track, and effectively manage engineering activities and resources to achieve project objectives.
  • Budget, track, and manage project engineering timesheets, expenses, and related data 
  • Provide regular reports on project progress, developments, schedules, and cost.
  • Train, evaluate, develop, and mentor Engineers.
  • Coordinate opportunities for cross-training, continuing education, and new energy technology introduction.
  • Ensure compliance with company, industry, and regulatory safety, standards, and protocols.
  • Cultivate positive and effective customer and business relationships.
  • Coordinate with other leadership personnel in the development of commercial strategy for region wide energy storage and other distributed energy technological implementation in both the C&I and MUSH markets
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing leadership to determine attractive markets and messaging to obtain customers in those markets;
  • Train sales and engineering staff on technology, markets, development approach;
  • Develop modeling, savings, pricing and guarantee standards;
  • Collaborate with Ameresco’s aftercare team in the development of the operations, maintenance and asset management strategy for new products and services
  • Identify software required, negotiate the acquisition of the software, manage the implementation of the software, and train others to utilize the software in accordance with best practices;
  • Lead the contract and price dialogue with new vendors, equipment suppliers, subcontractors and software suppliers.
  • Support Ameresco approved vendor list and vendor qualification process.
  • Identify, screen and determine optimal vendors, equipment suppliers, subcontractors and software suppliers;
  • Identify and execute key partnerships in accordance with strategy;
  • Support customer meetings, proposals and presentations;
  • Represent the company or support others in representing the company at selected conferences; tradeshows; events; and in the public forum; advancing the market awareness of the Ameresco value proposition;
  • Collaborate with the Operations staff in moving individual projects into implementation phase and engaging operations and client resources as needed to measure and celebrate performance and project outcomes;
  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • BA/BS degree in Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • 7 years in leadership / management position, 10 years of experience acting in Solar PV commercial development, engineering and proven successful engineering and deployment of battery energy storage projects.

Additional Qualifications: 

  • Professional Certifications and/or advanced degree viewed as favorable for position requirements (EIT, PE, MBA, CEM)
  • Additional desired experience in general construction development process including project development, engineering, construction of energy generation projects, power purchase agreements, performance contracting, and financial analysis of energy generation projects.
  • Demonstrated skills in priority organization, technical writing, detail-oriented approach, with ability to produce big picture results in a fast-paced business environment. 
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and work with multi-functional teams including: sales, customers, equipment vendors, multi discipline engineers, and utilities. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including written and verbal.
  • Ability to travel to Renewable Energy Project Sites and Ameresco offices.  Travel less than 20% of the time.
  • Advanced Proficiency in software applications (in order of importance). Microsoft Excel, PV Syst, SAM, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, Google Sketchup.
  • Understanding of NEC, IBC applicable codes pertaining to commercial Solar PV.
  • Demonstrated ability to correctly solve complex problems and issues without regular supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience managing internal and/or external resources.
  • Demonstrated experience working in complex jurisdictional or utility environments. Experience working through commercial solar PV utility interconnection.
  • Demonstrated experience in electrical and racking/structural systems for solar PV commercial systems.
  • Experience working in EPC (engineer, procure, construct), or PPA (power purchase agreement) environment a plus.
