About the Role
- As Senior Engineer – Android Audio, you will be working on multi-threaded, multi-processor and/or multi-core architectures to customize Android Audio framework and integrate Audio DSP algorithms by following a defined s/w development process.
- You will be responsible for feature development while ensuring quality by following the prescribed engineering practices. You will participate in design, development, code review, verification, troubleshooting, porting, and delivery of high-quality products.
What You Will Do:
- Developing, modifying, and porting of Android Audio framework and native layer components.
- Estimate processing resources including MIPS, ROM and RAM and optimize individual algorithms and total system performance
- Analyze performance impacts of signal flow designs, pipelines, block size, sample rate and code structure
- Identify product requirements or performance issues. Work with the software team leader for a resolution.
- Participate in design, development, verification, troubleshooting, and delivery of high-quality products
- Analyze existing embedded software to add features, make modifications, fix bugs, and/or port to different platforms.
- Specify and implement unit tests for developed SW units.
- Ensure pre-integration testing and verification for the functional area and its features.
- Provide root cause analysis for issues, fix these issues, and verify effectiveness of given fixes for the software components delivered.
- Study and understand specifications, architecture, and design documents for the system.
- Ensure the process adherence of the work products.
- Support in ensuring quality through effective design and code review.
- Report status, issues, and progress of the SW development to the SW lead.
- Ensure the delivery of features in scope, time, and quality.
- Join customer presentations and debug workshops.
- Coordinates software development activities with software team leader.
- Identify product requirement or performance issues. Work with software team leader to implement a resolution.
- Communicate with peers inside the Harman group to coordinate software development.
What You Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 5-8 years of software development experience
- Minimum 3 years of Android audio experience (Android audio framework, Android Media System knowledge preferred) HAL
- Proficient in C++/Java//C programming language for multi-thread-based designs in multi-core systems.
- Good knowledge of Android and its IPC like Binders, HIDL, thread priorities etc.
- Good knowledge on DSP concepts and exposure to Audio processing and algorithms
- Knowledge of Audio concepts like PCM data, Bitrate, multi-channel audio
- Must have Hands on experience in Android migrations
- Experience in usage of tools like Audacity and/or Adobe Audition and/or Audio Precision
- Experience in usage of Android tools like Systrace, dumpsys etc. for debugging Audio problems
- JNI is added advantage
- Should be aware of Android HAL AOSP architecture, Android Build System,
- Hands-on knowledge of Android Native layer like AudioFlinger or AudioPolicyManager
- Good experience working with tools like Gerrit/GIT, Bamboo, Bitbucket, JIRA, etc.
- Good understanding of memory management/Interrupt handling/DMA subsystems, concurrency, virtual memory, caching, interrupts, device drivers, real-time considerations in embedded systems.
- Working knowledge of software development processes and process models such as CMMI or ASPICE.
- Experience working in agile development environment.
- Experience in Kotlin is added advantage
