Morningstar is one of the most trusted brands for investing data, analysis and information delivered to individual investors, advisors, and industry professionals around the globe. The mission of the Editorial team at Morningstar is to help investors meet their financial goals, and our coverage of investing and the markets is through that lens. That means putting the day-to-day noise of the markets and investing into context while informing investors about the news, trends and opportunities that are critical to making smart decisions.
Job Description
The successful candidate will help us ensure delivery of high quality, engaging stories to millions of readers every month. You will edit and publish a mix of data-driven articles, breaking news, and commentary from our team of experienced journalists in Europe, the U.K., the U.S. and Canada. The coverage universe for our team includes stocks and bonds, funds and ETFs, economic news and monetary and fiscal policy.
The role requires in-depth knowledge of the markets and investing along with meaningful editing experience. Along with this base of knowledge, we're looking for an editor with a real passion for the subject matter, who is energized by the market's ups and downs and thrives in a deadline-driven environment. Experience with data visualization, and how it can inform and improve compelling stories for investors and readers, is a significant plus.
With the scope of the position bridging coverage of Europe, the U.K. and North America, we're seeking an editor who possesses strong communications and organizational skills. The winning candidate will have a strong work ethic, high standards and a commitment to delivering engaging, well-crafted articles to readers. Collaboration and teamwork are integral to our process. We're also looking a quick learner who can integrate our style and focus into their editing process.
Job responsibilities:

  • Edit and publish a regular flow of data-driven articles, news and analysis to Morningstar's U.K., European, U.S. and Canadian websites and newsletters.
  • Work with an experienced team of journalists to develop and fine-tune engaging stories about markets and investing.
  • Ensure that all articles meet Morningstar's high standards for quality and clarity.
  • Incorporate SEO best practices into our articles.
  • Work closely with writers to eliminate jargon and make complex concepts accessible to a range of readers.
  • Write clear and engaging headlines.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum three years of experience editing investing or markets articles.
  • Proven ability to shape a compelling lede, succinct conclusion, and overall story structure that best conveys information to readers.
  • Proven ability to multitask and prioritize copy flow under time pressure, and manage competing demands from team members and editors.
  • Native or equivalent command of the English language.
  • Experience editing stories on deadline, at speed, without sacrificing high editorial standards.
  • Confidence in adopting new technologies into daily workflow and interest in innovation.

Nice to have:

  • Additional language skills at a business-fluent level.
  • Experience in leveraging financial data platforms (e.g. Morningstar, Factset, Bloomberg) as part of the editorial process.
  • Familiarity with Morningstar research and data
  • Comfort with Excel.
  • Experience of working in a large organization with multiple teams and reporting lines.
  • Experience working with teams where for some members, English is not the first language.
  • Investment Management Certificate (IMC) or qualifications from the CISI.

Hybrid Work:
Morningstar's hybrid work environment gives you the opportunity to work remotely and collaborate in-person each week. We've found that we're at our best when we're purposely together in our London office on a regular basis, at least three days each week.
