Position Overview: The Senior Director, Risk Appetite Framework (RAF) is responsible for enhancing, implementing, and maintaining the Company's RAF, including leading activities in support of the annual setting of risk appetite by the Executive Leadership Team and review, challenge, and approval of the RAF by the Board. This role involves fostering alignment between the setting of risk appetite with strategic, business, financial and capital planning processes. The successful candidate will become a member of the Enterprise Risk team within the Global Risk Management function.
You have extensive experience in risk management within the financial services industry and a strong understanding of OSFI regulatory requirements and international standards. You know that understanding and managing risk can lead to value protection and value creation. You keenly recognize the importance of risk / return optimization. You are excited to share your expertise in a pragmatic and approachable way with various stakeholders. You are comfortable around senior executives and can influence others to drive great outcomes in support of sound risk culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Improve integration of the setting of Risk Appetite with strategic, business, financial, and capital planning.
- Enhance, implement, and maintain RAF policies, procedures, and guidance, including clear articulation of governance, accountabilities, and implementation.
- Lead annual process to refresh the RAF, culminating in Board approval.
- Define approach to setting both qualitative Risk Appetite Descriptions and quantitative Risk Appetite Metrics.
- Integrate enhanced Risk Appetite Metrics Dashboard into quarterly reporting to the Executive Risk Committee and Board Risk Committee. Monitor dashboard and provide guidance regarding escalations and breaches.
- Collaborate with the Global Risk Management Leadership Team to support businesses and functions in integrating risk appetite into decision-making processes.
- Develop and deliver training and awareness programs on risk appetite.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Background in Risk Management, Business, Finance, Economics, Actuarial, Physics, Engineering, or a related field (advanced degree preferred); experience in consulting, financial services first line, or compliance considered a plus.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in risk management, preferably within the financial services industry.
- Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills.
- Sharp analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Self-starter that takes initiative and is passionate about driving outcomes.
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements, international standards, and industry best practices.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Ability to see the big picture and pay attention to detail.
- Ability to influence and deliver amidst ambiguity.
- Previous experience in designing, implementing, and validating the effectiveness of controls.

Salary range is expected to be between
$105,750.00 CAD - $190,350.00 CAD
