Senior Data Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Client Communications team at Northwestern Mutual. Here, you will play a key role in building and supporting data and technology (both custom-developed and vended) for our Client Communications team. In this position, you will be working with a group of engineers to drive the data landscape that allows Client Communications to build high-quality applications, systems, and software and enable our business to grow. To support our growing team, we are seeking a strong engineer who is passionate about developing solutions that meet business needs, is a quick learner, enjoys daily interaction with business and technology teams, and is comfortable learning new technologies and platforms.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Accounting for data modeling and executing the strategic data vision for Client Communications
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, define technical specifications, provide solutions to system-wide architectural problems while ensuring successful delivery through continuous improvement
• Debugging and troubleshooting complex issues, ensuring the stability and reliability of our applications
• Taking ownership of backlog items and actively contributing to the git repositories, driving the progress of projects
• Demonstrating technical leadership to the team and multiplying their talent through positive mentorship, sharing knowledge and best practices to foster their professional growth

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• 4 - 6+ years of professional data engineering experience required
• Proficiency in data modeling tools (ERwin, ER/Studio, PowerDesigner)
• Experience designing data structures to solve business requirements for both structured and unstructured data (e.g. RDBMS vs JSON, XML, and NoSQL)
• Experience solutioning data requirements using data from multiple sources to meet business requirements
• Experience with data cataloging tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation, DataHub, Apache Atlas). Understanding of data governance, data stewardship, and data management best practices
• Advanced SQL skills for querying and database management
• Experience with making Technical/Architectural decisions and recommendations to support current and future business needs
• Experience with PowerBI preferred
• Previous Fintech experience
• Experience with cloud platforms and databases
• Hands-on Full Stack development experience working with modern languages and frameworks like Java, Spring Boot, TypeScript/JavaScript, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes and SQL/NoSQL is nice to have
• Experience with Ansible, Gitlab and Terraform is nice to have

Pay Range - Start:
$102,060.00
Pay Range - End:
$189,540.00
