The Data Engineer supports the design and implementation of data engineering solutions, ensuring efficient data workflows to enable AI and ML applications within the DoD.
Job Duties
- Data Ingestion and Integration: Support the configuration and ingestion of designated structured, unstructured, and semi-structured data repositories into advanced capabilities within the Databricks platform to satisfy mission partner requirements. Enable a robust data analytics and DevOps pipeline that drives the rapid delivery of functionality to the client.
- Operational Oversight: Maintain all operational aspects of data transfers, leveraging Databricks’ unified data processing capabilities while accounting for the security posture of the underlying infrastructure. Ensure systems and applications are secure and monitor the health of the environment through various tracking and analytics tools.
- Automation and ETL Management: Automate configuration management using state-of-the-art tools and workflows. Stay up to date on Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) technologies, leveraging Databricks for scalable and efficient data pipelines. Drive innovation through automation and support the development of robust data workflows.
- Independent Solution Development: Work under general guidance to develop innovative approaches and solutions independently. Regularly review architectural designs, identify opportunities for automation, optimize existing workflows, right-size infrastructure, and implement cost-reduction strategies to ensure a healthy and sustainable environment.
- Technical Expertise and Cloud Integration: Apply expertise in data engineering technologies and services, with a focus on Databricks and its integration into larger data ecosystems. Leverage knowledge of databases, data structuring approaches, and Cloud architectural constructs. Establish and maintain Cloud environments programmatically using vendor consoles and APIs to streamline operations.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration and Innovation: Engage with multiple functional teams to understand client challenges, prototype new ideas, and implement innovative technologies. Design, implement, test, and deploy full-featured solutions and components to meet evolving client needs, leveraging Databricks for scalable and high-performing analytics.
- Web Scraping and ETL Management: Maintain and enhance an existing collection of web scraping tools used as the initial step in the ETL process. Identify opportunities for improvement, scalability, and efficiency while leveraging Databricks for advanced ETL processing and orchestration.
- Coding and Scalability: Identify and implement scalable and efficient coding solutions, utilizing Databricks to handle large-scale data processing needs and foster continuous optimization in the data pipeline.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with 5-7 years of experience or Master’s degree with 3 years of experience.
- Familiarity with cloud environments and big data frameworks.
- Experience in coding languages and pipeline optimization.
- Experience with Big Data systems, including Apache Spark / Databricks
- Experience with ETL processes;
- Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or MilCloud 2.0
- Applying DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and automating that process
- Experience with multiple coding languages

- DoD Top Secret (TS/SCI preferred)
