About the Team:

The Legal team at Relativity Space is responsible for identifying and managing risks across the organization to ensure Relativity is adequately protected through its rapid growth. Our legal team manages intellectual property, contracts, and ensuring compliance, among other responsibilitiesUnique to Relativity’s fast-paced startup environment, this team is given the opportunity to work across many teams to support Relativity's ambitious goal of building the next great launch company. 

Relativity is looking for an entrepreneurial counsel or senior counsel to take primary responsibility for the management and enhancement of Relativity Space’s Trade Compliance Program, and to serve as a subject matter expert in trade control requirements and regulations company-wide. Moreover, the Counsel, Regulatory Compliance will play a critical role partnering with our federal government programs to support regulatory and contractual compliance. The position will work cross functionally consistently with the Company’s values and preserve its reputation for business integrity and ethics. You will:

  • Lead the Company’s Trade Compliance program to manage risk and ensure compliance with U.S. export laws and regulations. Develop company-wide and team-specific communications and training plans to ensure alignment with trade compliance processes.
  • Partner collaboratively with company-wide stakeholders to build trade compliance and monitoring tools to help Relativity mitigate trade-related risk.
  • Manage jurisdiction classifications and export authorization for various Company programs.
  • Support policy development and contract compliance for Relativity’s federal programs and develop and deliver training on various regulatory and compliance topics for Company employees, with special emphasis on national security and government contracting obligations. 

About You:  

  • The successful candidate will have a J.D., a license to practice law, and at least 8+ years of relevant experience gained at a law firm or in-house legal office with expert knowledge and understanding of global trade laws and regulations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. export laws and regulations (e.g., ITAR, EAR, Sanctions, Anti-Boycott provisions).
  • Experience working with the FAR/DFARS and other government procurement regulations.
  • Proven ability to provide practical, flexible, risk-adjusted advice to business stakeholders and senior leadership.

Nice to haves but not required:  

  • Experience practicing in or with DoD agencies.
  • Experience working in or with the aerospace and/or the marine industry. 
  • Experience in a start-up or early-stage company environment.

Hiring Range:

$189,000$241,000 USD
