Senior Cassandra Database Engineer

About the RoleAs a Software Engineer, you will be joining a dynamic team of IT professionals who set out to deliver and support Cassandra Database platform for our internal customers.
Building on our ambition to deliver our Platform Services applying agile practices, we are looking for somebody who brings a strong customer focus, a desire to understand the customer needs, and help address their challenges. If you are interested in all aspects of the IT services delivery process (architecture, design, implementation, testing, operations and support) you could be our ideal candidate.
Good experience with DevOps practices and toolset with strong focus on automation of provisioning, quality controls, security auditing and maintenance.

What to expect

In this role you will:

• Analyze technical and functional requirements and translate them into software solutions. Understand dependencies toward other systems and teams.
• Design, develop and integrate third party components including system testing and installations.
• Develop automation to complete installations, configuration, tuning and maintenance of database management.
• Provide technical assistance to colleagues and assist in resolving problems reported by other team members.
• Prepare user documentation, installation guides and operating procedures.
• Support the delivered software and be part of a 'Center of Expertise' problem solving team. Analyze support cases and, when appropriate, provide solutions following the established case management processes.

What will make you successful?

We are seeking professionals with:

• Having a passion for providing solutions, solving issues and working with highly skilled teams.
• Requires 5 -7 years of experience in Cassandra databases technical area. Preferably Datastax Cassandra.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
• Experience working with the following:
• Worked on large multi-site clusters representing multi-functional global teams.
• Designing and implementing scalable and high performing Cassandra clusters.
• Optimize database performance, including query tuning and schema design.
• Monitor and solve database issues, ensuring high availability and reliability.
• Proficiency in writing and optimizing CQL (Cassandra Query Language).

Nice to Haves:

• RDBMS database knowledge is nice to have as well. Ultimately we are a database team solving database problems.
• Having a passion for providing solutions, troubleshooting issues and working in highly skilled team.
• Ansible for installation and configuration automation.
• Jenkins/CloudBees for release management through CI/CD pipeline.
• 5+ years; DevOps and database infrastructure release management.
• Jenkins/CloudBees.
• Languages: Python, Shell scripting, Java.
• Good knowledge of IT security, mainly in the DBA area.
• RDBMS database knowledge.

Preferred Skills:

• Datastax Cassandra certifications.
• Knowledge of Data Modeling concepts and application performance/design.
• Experience with RHEL operating system.
• Experience with Confluence/Jira tools or equivalent

The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position in Virginia is $92,120.00 to $171,080.00 USD. Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. Our compensation packages include a competitive base salary and bonus opportunity for all employees contingent on personal and company performance.
