Job Description
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (“NREL”) is seeking a senior Benefits Analyst. This position will oversee the administration of NREL’s benefit programs and will provide consultation and analysis to management on the strategic aspects of NREL’s benefit programs.
- Plan and Execute Day-to-day administration of enrollment and eligibility for new hires, qualified life events and separations.
- Review bi-weekly benefit eligibility feeds.
- Retirement: Review and analyze various records and other information to accurately determine retirement benefits, withdrawals and rollovers, death benefits, refunds and other related information.
- Maintains and leads close relationships with vendors.
- Administer, lead and oversee COBRA administration.
- Assist with reviewing and analyzing data around ACA.
- Partners with HR, Payroll and Finance to assist with development of employee benefit programs, system set-up, reporting & audits, budget, along with annual IRS filings.
- Expertise explaining employee benefits by conducting meetings; preparing written and graphic announcements and explanations; responding to requests.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Develops, conducts and participates in a variety of presentations to inform and educate management and employees about changes to benefit plans, administrative practices and legislated requirements and programs.
- Interprets and reviews plan documents, plan descriptions and summaries.
- Will assist Benefits Manager with benefit plan data gathering and analysis.
- Supports and Participates in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) activities by seeking first to understand through active listening, soliciting feedback, valuing, and incorporating diverse perspectives, into the work and team environment.

Basic QualificationsRelevant Bachelor's Degree and 9 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Master's Degree and 7 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant PhD and 4 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant JD and 4 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Applies extensive technical expertise, and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Contributes to the development of new concepts, techniques and standards. Considered internal subject matter expert. Extensive knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field. Excellent leadership, project management and problem solving skills. Ability to use various computer software programs.

Additional Required Qualifications
- Must have strong knowledge of benefit administration, to include medical, dental, vision, welfare plans and retirement administration.
- Strong Ability to interpret organizations procedure, compensation guidelines and administrative regulations.
- Experience with enrollment and eligibility, day-to-day customer service and state and federal compliance.
- Experience communicating effectively orally and in writing.
- Experience with written comprehensive and articulate reports on complex topics.
- Experience developing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees.
- Experience making effective presentations and to convey information in a clear, understandable manner.
- Experience working independently and exercising reasonable judgment in decision making.
- Experience managing multiple assignments within established deadlines.
- Knowledge of standard office software including spreadsheet applications and word processing.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)Job Profile: Professional IV / Annual Salary Range: $79,600 - $143,300
NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees.
