The Senior Associate Software Applications Development Engineer is a developing subject matter expert, responsible for developing new applications and improving upon existing applications based on the needs of the internal organization and / or external clients.

What you'll be doing

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop applications that effectively accomplish client objectives and user needs.
  • Design and write code for applications and maintain databases when required.
  • Analyze and maintain existing software applications to improve and optimize functionality and fix problems.
  • Optimize applications to improve performance.
  • Ensure seamless integration of Eclipse Data Space Connector (EDC) components into existing partner systems.
  • Provide training to partner staff on Gaia-X framework and EDC components, including system architecture, development, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Offer technical support and guidance to ensure the successful adoption of data space solutions.
  • Identify specific customer and client needs and preferences related to the application.
  • Document dataspace connector requirements and features, including technical specifications and use cases.
  • Assist with the implementation, testing, and deployment of dataspace connectors at partner.
  • Provide technical assistance to ensure the proper installation and maintenance of EDC components.
  • Act as a technical advisor to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Support the implementation of molecular tumor boards using data space and EDC components.
  • Participate in software product review meetings and team meetings.
  • Work in an Agile environment, contributing to sprint planning and product discussions.
  • Interact with relevant internal technical stakeholders to obtain information on project limitations, performance requirements, and security enhancements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes

  • Broad understanding of computer science, with specific knowledge of software development, application design, and data space integration.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with a proactive and analytical mindset.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to understand and analyze complex systems.
  • Strong knowledge of the software development process and Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, etc.).
  • Experience with integrated development environments (VSCode, IntelliJ, etc.).
  • Demonstrated analytical and decision-making skills, ensuring cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to handle client and customer issues tactfully and professionally.

Academic Qualifications and Certifications

  • Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications: AWS, Azure, Kubernetes.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Software Applications Engineering and Design.
  • Strong experience with backend programming languages such as Node.js, TypeScript, Java, Python, C, or GO.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Azure and/or AWS.
  • Strong experience in Kubernetes and container orchestration.
  • Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Azure Bicep, AWS CloudFormation, etc.).
  • Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitLab, AWS CodePipeline, etc.).
  • Proven experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools like Grafana or similar.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of Gaia-X framework, including GXFS, compliance, federation, data exchange, Trust framework.
  • Understanding of data space concepts, services, and implementation techniques.
  • Experience working in the Life Sciences or Healthcare industry.
  • Familiarity with molecular tumor boards and their applications.
  • Hands-on experience with data processing and analytics tools (Power BI, Azure Synapse Analytics, Databricks, etc.).
