Job Description
We are presently recruiting for a Senior Associate (Japan consumer sector focused) in the Active Equities Asia department in our Hong Kong office. Reporting to the Regional domain lead of Active Equities Asia, the incumbent will be a key contributor to scaling our portfolio, lead investment research, develop and communicate investment recommendations in our long/short strategy.
Role Specific Accountabilities:
Analyze and communicate Investment Opportunities
- Lead the research and evaluate investment opportunities in consumer sector in Japan market.
- Lead due diligence on opportunities – including financial, company and sector diligence, to determine investment merits and risks.
- Oversee the building of dynamic financial and valuation models to analyze expected returns of investment opportunities, test assumptions and perform sensitivity analysis.
- Perform valuation analysis of companies’ securities,
- Perform the relative ranking of investment opportunities to optimize exposures within the portfolio.
- Present investment recommendations to thought partners and investment committees.
Asset Management
- Analyze and communicate company earnings and events that move share prices.
- Monitor ongoing financial performance of portfolio assets. Oversee the update of financial models and other analysis tools to help with communicating rationale behind change in investment view.
- Performing valuation reviews for portfolio assets.
- Build and leverage relationships with industry participants and management teams.
Be a Contributing Team Player
- Participate in and contribute to weekly departmental meetings and investment recommendation meetings.
- Support other members on the team in research and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with other departments to produce impactful research work.
Qualifications
- Approximately 5-8 years experience of public equity (buy-side/sell-side) with solid experience of covering the consumer sector in Japan.
- Experience in conducting due diligence. Forensic accounting and research experience is a plus.
- CFA, CPA or CA designation is considered an asset.
- Must speak, read and write Fluent English and Japanese. Ability to communicate effectively and fluently, both orally and in writing. Excellent presentation skill is valued.
- Strong interpersonal skills and business relationship skills.
- Flexibility, adaptability, have initiatives and good judgment.
- Team player who enjoys a high-performance culture. Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
