Summary Generated by Built In

Hi, we're Oscar. We're hiring a Senior AI Engineer to join our AI team.

Oscar is the first health insurance company built around a full stack technology platform and a focus on serving our members. We started Oscar in 2012 to create the kind of health insurance company we would want for ourselves—one that behaves like a doctor in the family.

About the role

In this role, you will join Oscar’s AI team to transform healthcare with cutting-edge Generative AI solutions. You will collaborate with top engineers and data scientists to build impactful AI-driven applications across the healthcare ecosystem.

You will be responsible for leveraging Generative AI to optimize healthcare operations across many different use cases, build end-to-end prototypes, and measure success with your strong statistical and / or analytical background. You will use your creativity, ambition and determination to solve the health insurance industry’s biggest problems, tackle ambiguous performance issues and meet requirements for production launches.

You will work on the central AI Pod at Oscar. This team is responsible for both enabling the rest of Oscar’s AI applications as well as directly delivering value on the most strategic AI projects in the business.

  • On the enablement side, you will engage with third-party AI partners to test new models and techniques as they come to the market, maintain core AI infrastructure for the rest of the company, and facilitate regular hacking sessions and knowledge sharing sessions.
  • On the project side, you will work with stakeholders to dive into the details of a domain and define requirements for AI software based on the use case. You will decide when and if you need a python script, a third party tool, a full stack web app, or some combination. You will execute on those requirements independently or with a small team. You’ll carefully review results, generate ideas to achieve your target, and keep iterating until you get there. You don’t shy away from problems with no ‘right answer’ and you’re comfortable in a world of ambiguity because you love creative problem solving and collaboration.

You will report to the Senior Product Manager, AI Innovation.

Work Location:

This is a hybrid role in our New York office (in Hudson Square). You will work part of the time in the office and part of the time remote / work-from-home. #LI-Hybrid

  • Act as a key contributor to AI strategy, identifying opportunities for impactful applications and enabling their delivery.
  • Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering or data science experience, working with a variety of technologies, and have increasingly impactful accomplishments
  • Proficiency in Python and statistical fundamentals (e.g., bias-variance trade-offs, probability distributions)

  • Familiarity with widely used AI frameworks and tools (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex) and prototyping libraries (e.g., Streamlit, Replit,
