As a Senior Actuarial Support Specialist, you will be responsible for managing the implementation of the annual dividend scale for whole life policies that are maintained on three Administrative Systems. You will work with partners in IT and other units to ensure the integrity of the life dividend. You will also support the Product team in developing future whole life and term life products. Additionally, you will provide support to the Customer Support team, the Illustration team, the Operation and Issue teams, as well as other Individual Markets (IM) functions.
This will be a highly technical role with the responsibility of ensuring that rates and values are correct for all inforce and future policies.
You are:
- A self-starter who is detail oriented, inquisitive, and analytical. Someone with strong verbal communication skills and the ability to connect with both actuaries and non-actuaries. A team player and problem solver.
You have:
- Strong analytical skills, ability to identify problems and find solutions, ability to confidently overcome obstacles, ability to trace through results in order to identify errors
- Aptitude for financial math
- Demonstrated programming expertise with modern programming languages. Python would be a plus.
- Preferred 2-3 years of experience in an operational and/or analytical capacity.
- Preferred life insurance industry experience.
- Experience or willingness to promptly learn APL Win and use SAS. Familiarity with Amazon Workspace (AWS) database and MySQL is a plus.
- Strong Microsoft Office Skills, especially Excel (including Macros)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Math, Programing, Statistics or related field is required
You will:
- Work with ‘Rates and Values’ SMEs with long term goal of becoming one of the dividend implementation successors. Update and modernize dividend implementation systems as the need arises. Write technical specs for annual dividend scale implementation. Maintain the Dividend Formula Book annually. Research the impact of certain dividend scale actions. Maintain or enhance the dividend liability system. Address policy values and Product and Dividend related calculation questions.
- Work with Life Pricing and the Product Implementation Team (PIT) to implement new Whole Life and Term products in our Admin systems. Be responsible for any supporting rate and factor file creation or calculation engines that are necessary.
- Work with business and technical staff across the Life Insurance Organization to develop and design solutions for various innovative features (such as new dividend options or new riders)
- Support testing of modifications to complex calculations in the various Admin, Illustration and Issue systems, including stand-up of new systems
- Work to maintain and replace the Legacy systems
Reporting Relationships:
As a Senior Actuarial Support Specialist, you will report to our Actuarial Support Manager, who reports to the Head of Actuarial Support.
Location and Work Arrangement:
- The work arrangement will be hybrid, with three days per week in Guardian's NYC Home Office at Hudson Yards.

Salary Range:
$80,940.00 - $132,975.00
The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
