This position is located in Richmond, Virginia and is NOT open to remote candidates. This role is a hybrid position including both work-from-home and in-office workdays.

The Senior Accountant is responsible for recording and reconciling financial results as part of the operational accounting and reporting team. This team maintains and manages the controls and processes related to reporting of the company’s financial results. The Senior Accountant’s work has a direct impact on the team’s ability to meet compliance requirements, the completion of timely accounting records, and, ultimately, the ability of our executive leadership to make sound business decisions.

As a Senior Accountant, you will primarily work independently, with frequent opportunities to interface with Accounting and Finance management. As Senior Accountant, you will:

  • Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger closing and reporting processes.
  • Perform accurate and timely recording of journal entries, including monthly close entries.
  • Perform account reconciliations, including identification and remediation of all issues, in compliance of audit requirements.
  • Coordinate and communicate with external auditors and financial advisors and participate in the external audit process.
  • Support various or ad hoc financial analysis related to benefit programs, insurance, or other areas as part of special projects or strategic initiatives.
  • Work cross-functionally with other internal teams, including Finance and Market Innovative Solutions, to support the achievement of business goals.
  • Maintain a proactive, results-oriented approach to work and make recommendations for continuous process improvement.

To be considered for the position, you must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Excel.
  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience in accounting.

Additional preferred qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Accounting or similar discipline, or Certified Public Accountant license is preferred.
  • Experience using Sage accounting software preferred. 
  • Experience in the life sciences industry is preferred.
