About the department

The Finance function at abrdn is pivotal to our success, handling critical activities related to accounting, product/business control, reporting, and tax functions across the firm. This role is embedded within the Accounting area of the Finance Function, where we prioritize producing timely, accurate, and reliable financial information. Our responsibilities include preparing profit and loss, balance sheet accounts, group consolidations, general ledger journals, accruals, and prepayments.

About the role

As a Senior Accountant at abrdn, you will have a key role in coordinating the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Group for our entities in Germany. You will lead all aspects of the team's activities, ensuring that our operations are organized in a controlled and efficient manner. This position offers an outstanding opportunity to craft and implement the abrdn Investments policies and guidelines, contributing to our ambitious goals.

As the Senior Accountant you will be responsible for the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and HGB (German Commercial Code), coordinating with auditors and internal departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute impersonal account bookings, supervise, and reconcile asset accounts and profit and loss accounts (expenses & costs).

  • Manage, complete, and oversee manual payment runs.

  • Post and supervise debtors' and creditors' invoices, including reconciliation.

  • Review overall account details (balance sheet and profit and loss accounts) and generate periodic and as-needed reports for the Management Board and other customers.

  • Book and supervise liquid assets, such as securities, money market instruments, and fixed deposits.

  • Calculate and book accruals and deferrals for interest and call money. Handle and supervise accruals and deferrals thoroughly.

  • Prepare quarterly tax calculations (Corporate Income Tax / Corporate Trade Tax).

  • Register and monitor German foreign trade regulations compliance.

About the candidate requirements

  • Certified accountant (IHK, Chamber of Industry and Commerce, or comparable qualifications).

  • Outstanding interest in figures with a strong understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles.

  • Proficiency in accounting standards: IFRS, Local GAAP (HGB), RechKredV, and Investment law.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant tax laws and regulations, particularly VAT law.

  • Proficient in the English language.
