The Opportunity

DAT is looking for a SDET to join our Engineering team in Bangalore, India.

Core Responsibilities

  • Automation Responsibilities
    • Automate tests of software in accordance with Automation team's best practices in order to 
      • facilitate QA's acceptance of a software product/system/feature/component
      • quickly identify regressions during an iteration that compromise software quality, and
      • increase depth and breadth of test coverage to support release frequency targets.
    • Collaborate closely with STE’s in test definition (e.g. Cucumber) review to ensure accurate implementation of tests, e.g. the automating tests consistent with what is intended by the test case.
    • Complete automation stories and tasks assigned within a project iteration timeframe.
    • Effectively communicate automation activities and results in oral and written formats, such as at daily standups and within JIRA.
    • Analyzes test run results to identify and correct false negatives, i.e. tests that are reporting as “failed” due to a reason other than the application under test.
    • Collaborate with project team members in the diagnosing or resolution of problems in accordance with team-established guidelines.
    • Maintain documentation of automation framework, tools, and processes.
    • Demonstrate ongoing commitment to learning tools, test definition language, and programming language(s) used in test automation.
    • Demonstrate ongoing commitment to learning latest software test theory and practices, as well as the underlying technology used to build and host the products and services being tested.


  • Team Responsibilities
    • Have a positive, can-do attitude. Be teachable, flexible, and adaptable.  Be willing to embrace change. Do not just report problems, be a problem solver.
    • Promptly attend and actively participate in all team meetings such as Daily Standups, Sprint Planning meetings, and Retrospectives.
    • Help with manual testing tasks on an exception basis to help team achieve  key dates and deliverables.
  • Success Measured by a combination of:
    •  Measurable increased breadth and/or depth of test automation coverage, comprised of both the number of automated tests and a coverage percentage.
    • Number of automation stories or tasks completed within each release or iteration.
    • Level of difficulty of a story or issue entrusted to the SDET for implementation.
    • Confidence and Trust expressed by fellow project team members in the SDET’s ability to a) automate the most important tests, and b) provide accurate and sufficient detail about automation.

Software Development Engineer Test Responsibilities

  • Test Automation:
    • Understand parallel programming, resource management and how to design and implement
      microservices and web applications.
    • Create/Deploy automation framework for any new project and mentor other STEs and SDETS on its use.
    • Able to update any component of the automation framework.
    • Maintain automation repositories.
    • Capable of deploying framework in DAT’s cloud solution (e.g. Amazon Web Services) and running automated test suite for any application in any environment, e.g. Dev, QA, Staging, or Production.
  • Test Expertise. Knowledge of best practices of automation. Examples include understanding principles of automation architecture, the relationship between the framework and the application under test, and identifying most important tests for automated regression.
  • Leadership: Expected to exercise leadership and test planning tasks. Expected to create stories and tasks in JIRA. Responsible for estimation during planning activities such as release or sprint planning meetings.
  • Experience: 3-5 years automation experience
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Supervision: No supervision required.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Expected to to help monitor and mentor SDETs in any of their automation responsibilities.
