Role

Responsible for the operation and control of the RTS systems suite encompassing hardware, software, infrastructure, activities, and environment including documentation and daily operation, ensuring integrity and reliability of the systems on a 24/7/365 basis. Provides the first line (customer) facing support function for all RTS system users. Monitors RTS system performance Co-ordinates field resources in day-to-day activities.

What you’ll be doing 

Provision of direct support to the Regions, Control Centres and participate in user groups for SCADA and operational systems including faults, maintenance, and new installations.

Operations, archiving, documentation, controlling and logging access, maintenance, upgrades, repairs of systems faults and incidents and in liaison with internal and external parties ensure upgrades comply with Company policies and procedures for SCADA and operational IT systems, hardware, and environment.

Reviews, updates, documents, and communicates back up / emergency procedures for SCADA and operational systems.

Create and maintain supporting policy and procedure documentation.

Interface with Data Management and SCADA Support sections for the accurate coordination of system data management.

Regularly liaise with internal customers (e.g., Control Room staff) to ensure business needs are met.

Liaise with other support organisations (such as GE/UKIT/Systal/HP-CDS) for maintenance and fault issue progression.

Ensure timely reaction and restoration of all RTS system faults.

Contribute as an effective member of the RTS team to ensure the required level of team performance.

Provide support for User Training team.

Provides the business with necessary reports derived from RTS system data, using scripts and other means to generate these.

Participate as a member of the RTS External or Internal Standby Rotas (if and as required by the business).

Responsible for ensuring high availability and performance of the entire RTS suite of business-critical systems (safety, regulation and reputation critical).

   

What you’ll bring 

  • Experience of Real Time Systems & Control Room Operations

  • EN Distribution / Transmission engineering.

  • Experience of dealing with Suppliers, Contractors and Consultants and administering related contracts.

  • Working knowledge of Energy Networks policies, procedures and working practices.

  • Knowledge of network and business data and network management systems.

  • Awareness of the work carried out at Energy Networks control centres.

  • Knowledge of the SCADA estate deployed at these control centres and at the substations.

  • Ability to analyse complex problems.

  • Focus on accurate and timely delivery.

  • Committed to safe working practices.

  • Ability to respond to several different challenges in this role.

  • Actively seek opportunities to simplify processes and procedures and to rationalise systems where possible, with a view to minimising down-time for both customers and end-users, while keeping the support arrangements as simple and comprehensible as possible

  • Strive to maximise productivity, thus reducing the operational cost to the business.

  • Deliver full balance of activities, considering overall Energy Networks objectives and goals.

  • Able to make balanced decisions, considering all possible information available, able to consult with others when applicable and anticipate/recognise possible outcomes.

  • Able and confident to make own decisions and be confident to seek appropriate input from various levels within and out with the business.

Minimum Criteria  

  • Engineering qualification: HND/HNC (or equivalent significant relevant experience)

  • IT systems appreciation

  • In-depth understanding of SCADA          

  • At least three years’ experience in the above technical discipline
