MISSION
Belonging to the Operations Engineering team and reporting to the SCADA, Comms and Cybersecurity Lead, the SCADA and Comms Engineer will be responsible for implementing and deploying the strategy to manage the operational control, SCADA and Communications systems in the Continental Europe Offshore, making sure that a suitable and reliable OT infrastructure is in place, defining and implementing the necessary projects for the maintenance and renovation of this infrastructure so that it is fit for purpose at any time during the whole Offshore asset life.
The individual will be working as part of a global business with activities in many countries across Europe and the rest of the world, although with a main focus on the offshore windfarm sites in Continental Europe.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS
- Define the necessities, improvements and maintenance strategy of the control and communications systems in the Continental Europe Offshore Hub, to guarantee the highest assets availability, the compliance with the regulatory requirements and the best service quality following the best industry practices and standards.
- Identify the business technical risks related to the control systems, SCADA and communications systems condition and propose the necessary actions/plans to mitigate those risks as much as reasonably possible.
- Implement the required corrective and preventive maintenance activities to maintain/recover the assets availability/reliability either on his/her own or through contractors.
- Assess any technical issue related to the control systems, SCADA and communications systems, carrying out the Root Cause Analysis and proposing/implementing the necessary action to avoid any re-occurrence
- Deploy the necessary actions to comply with any regulatory requirements that may apply.
- Coordinate the related maintenance activities with the offshore site technical teams to guarantee the right execution timescales and works quality as long as the compliance of the applicable H&S rules.
- Extend any lesson learnt and the identified best practices to the others Offshore Hubs.
PROFILE/REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in relevant subject such as electronics, digital control, automation or communications.
- Considerable experience in a Control System related role.
- Highly skilled in maintenance of industrial control systems (DCSs, PLCs, SCADAS and HMIs).
- Experience of PLCs, SCADA and control systems design and operation.
- Knowledge of the equipment commonly found in Offshore wind projects including the wind turbines.
- Ability to think logically and be able to assess the risk of carrying out any fault finding, maintenance or upgrades to any SCADA, control or network system.
- Competent in future planning.
- Experience of contracting, engineering support and maintenance and defining scope of works.
- Self-motivation and willingness to learn.
- Competent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to influence and develop key project and business decisions.
- Developed report writing, presentation skills and ability to summarise key parameters and drivers impacting the project and business.
Knowledge in:
- Distributed Control Systems (i.e. ABB, Siemens, GE, Schneider) and PLCs (i.e. Siemens, Schneider, ABB).
- SCADA applications for power generating and distribution assets.
- IT/OT Ethernet networks and configuration of Switches, Firewalls and Routers (Cisco, Checkpoint, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Hirschmann).
- Industrial communication systems for electrical equipment / substation networks including protocols such as OPC, IEC61850-8-1 (MMS), IEC60870-5-104, MODBUS, SNMP.
Desirable skills
- PcVue SCADA application design and maintenance.
- Aveva PI software configuration and maintenance.
- Microsoft SQL Server configuration.
- Certain level of fitness for offshore works supported with medical certificate according to AWMF guideline.
- Postgraduate experience, preferably in operation of wind farms.
- Experience in the offshore operations sector.
- Knowledge of H&S and environmental legislation associated with marine/offshore operations projects.
- Cultural awareness.
- Experience of using High Voltage Electrical Safety Rules (eg. NETSO, DNO or offshore specific).
- Some track record in operation and maintenance delivery.
- GWO certificates for offshore works.
