SAP ASE DBA

The DBA will have SAP ASE experience as a primary skill set and will also possess HANA skills. The DBA will work within a globally dispersed team to supply complete support for all aspects of database and application infrastructure to a variety of Pythian’s customers.
What will you be doing?
- Continuously review capacity and predictive reports to efficiently allocate system resources and future capacity.
- Install, upgrade and patch multiple versions of Sybase ASE.
- Manage incident responses, documenting and developing solutions to mitigate
- Backup and recovery skills (analysis, strategies, and options) and implementation (scripts, automation, verification).
- Working to tune SQL to ensure minimal resource consumption, optimal data access, and response times.
- Ensure that database security and compliance standards are adhered to.
- Coordinate database maintenance requirements and schedules with application support teams.
- Automating database tasks for continuous service improvement
- Communicate with Pythian’s customers to articulate database issues and drive the resolution process.
- You will need to participate in on-call duties and provide senior level expertise in troubleshooting and resolving database issues.

While we realise you might not have everything to be the successful candidate for the Sybase DBA job you will likely have skills such as;
- At least 8+ year’s experience in SAP ASE
- Senior SME level knowledge as a Sybase DBA with extensive experience in large and critical environments using Sybase ASE, Sybase 16, and Replication Server.
- Experience in Sybase Replication Server, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Good understanding of Unix/Linux environments
- Shell Script and Perl Scripting ability
- Solid SQL and T-SQL skills.
- Knowledgeable of Cloud Technologies and work within private/public cloud environments would be a plus
- Experience as an HANA DBA will also be a significant plus
- Willingness to work shift work hours to align with a North American customer base
- In-depth knowledge of SAP HANA, including installation, configuration, and performance tuning of SAP HANA databases (Mandatory skill).
- Install, configure, and maintain SAP HANA databases on different platforms (on-premise and cloud).
- Monitor and tune SAP HANA for optimal performance, including SQL optimization, memory management, and workload management.
- Implement and manage HANA database backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Configure and maintain HANA System Replication, SAP HANA Scale-out, and other HA/DR solutions.
- Manage HANA security, including user authentication, roles, privileges, and encryption techniques.
- Utilize SAP HANA Studio, HANA Cockpit, DBACOCKPIT, and other tools for system monitoring, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
- Perform SAP HANA patching, upgrades, and migrations with minimal downtime.
- Conduct periodic disaster recovery and failover tests.
