MariaDB is making a big impact on the world. Whether you’re checking your bank account, buying a coffee, shopping online, making a phone call, listening to music, taking out a loan, or ordering takeout – MariaDB is the backbone of applications used every day. Companies small and large, including 75% of the Fortune 500 run MariaDB, touching the lives of billions of people. With massive reach through Linux distributions, enterprise deployments, and public clouds, MariaDB is uniquely positioned as the leading database for modern application development.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Global Head of Sales Engineering, our candidate will serve a critical role in closing the sales cycle and future growth in the Americas.   This is both a quota-attaining role (capitalizing on net-new business opportunities and leads) and a leadership role to build the pre-sales team while educating across sales, marketing, and management.  Additionally, leading and managing the professional services team.

Our ideal candidate will have consultative solutions for clients' business challenges in their organization. He or she needs to possess domain knowledge and maintain flexibility to oversee technical resources to contribute in the successful execution of multiple sales cycles.

There will also be a heads-down need to organize, create, and lighthouse content individually: presentations, web conferences, white-papers, workflows, and RFP/RFI's. If you have the technical sophistication, proven mastery of closing sales, and an appetite for a dynamic role in a startup environment, we'd like you to earn and own this leadership position.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Sales & Sales Engineering Leadership to identify and develop technical programs that can be leveraged by all sales engineers worldwide  – with a goal of helping MariaDB customers be more successful with our solutions
  • Develop new technical program requirements, pilot and improve, and roll-out programs to specific regions and/or world-wide
  • Work internally, as a center of excellence, enabling peer sales engineers supporting territories
  • Work directly with select Enterprise and Mid-Market customers as a lead sales engineer for specific initiatives

Qualifications

  • Technical experience with MariaDB and or MySQL
  • Three years of pre-sales engineering leadership experience focused on organizational growth, development of the existing team, and an ability to hire and retain high-performing engineers
  • A proven track record of working directly with customers or partners and partnering with sales leadership to bring deals to fruition. This is a role for someone with a bias for action, ready to roll up their sleeves
  • High level of sales acumen that matches an equally high level of enterprise technology with preferences given to candidates with database and/or cloud background. Must be able to partner closely and in sync with VP of sales, and other executive leaders to develop and execute new programs

Bonus Experience and Skills

  • Pre-sales experience in open-source software
  • The ideal candidate will have excellent communication along with a high level of organization skills.
  • SaaS and managed services/consulting experience

What We Do

MariaDB frees companies from the costs, constraints and complexity of proprietary databases, enabling them to reinvest in what matters most – rapidly developing innovative, customer-facing applications. MariaDB uses pluggable, purpose-built storage engines to support workloads that previously required a variety of specialized databases. With complexity and constraints eliminated, enterprises can now depend on a single complete database for all their needs, whether on commodity hardware or their cloud of choice. Deployed in minutes for transactional or analytical use cases, MariaDB delivers unmatched operational agility without sacrificing key enterprise features including real ACID compliance and full SQL.
