The Sales Data Analyst is responsible for analyzing sales data to identify trends and key performance indicators, interpreting complex data sets to provide actionable insights for strategic decision-making. They develop and maintain accurate sales forecasts, conduct trend analysis, and collaborate with other teams to optimize sales strategies. Additionally, they create visually compelling Power BI reports, utilize Excel/SQL for data analysis, and apply statistical methods to understand customer behavior and preferences.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Data Analysis and Interpretation: Analyze sales data, from multiple sources, to identify trends, patterns, and key performance indicators. Interpret complex data sets to provide actionable insights that drive sales strategy and decision-making.  Conduct ad hoc analyses into critical business questions and provide recommendations to stakeholders. Collaborate with other members of the analytics teams to identify potential data problems and establish best practices.
  • Sales Forecasting and Trend Analysis: Develop and maintain accurate sales forecasts based on historical data and current trends/initiatives. Conduct in-depth trend analysis to anticipate changes and proactively adjust sales strategies. Evaluate ever-changing business needs and build use cases for new data and modeling methods to provide richer analyses and empower greater sales performance.
  • Data Visualization: Assist in creating and maintaining visually compelling dashboards and reports utilizing Power BI. Present findings in a clear and concise manner to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Data Analysis & Query Expertise: Utilize SQL for ad-hoc data extraction and advanced Excel functions (including pivot tables and complex formulas) for data analysis. Develop and optimize DAX queries in Power BI for data modeling, creating calculated columns, measures, and KPIs to provide actionable insights.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience in data analytics.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong proficiency in data analysis tools and languages (e.g., SQL, Excel, Python)
    • Experience with Power BI for data visualization and reporting.
    • Expertise in writing and optimizing DAX queries for creating calculated columns, measures, and complex data models.
    • Ability to explain technical solutions and data science results to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
    • Previous experience in a sales or marketing environment preferred.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Salesforce and integration with analytical tools
  • Relevant certifications in data analysis or business intelligence preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (e.g., Business, Statistics, Data Science).
  • Master's degree in a relevant field preferred.

Performance Metrics/Success Criteria:

  • Data Accuracy & Quality: Ensure a high level of accuracy and consistency in sales data analysis, with minimal errors in data interpretation and reporting. Regular audits and validations of reports will be conducted to ensure data integrity.
  • Sales Forecast Accuracy: Achieve a high level of accuracy in sales forecasts, with deviations from actual sales remaining within an acceptable range (e.g., within 5-10%). Success will be measured by the ability to predict sales trends accurately and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Data Visualization & Reporting Effectiveness: Develop Power BI dashboards and reports that are regularly used by stakeholders for decision-making. Success will be evaluated by user feedback and adoption rates, aiming for high engagement and satisfaction from both technical and non-technical teams.
  • Timeliness of Deliverables: Meet or exceed deadlines for ad-hoc data analyses, reporting, and forecasting tasks. Performance will be assessed based on the ability to complete projects on time without compromising quality.
