Safety Specialist I, II or III (Level will is dependent on experience)

Where will you work: The successful candidate can work out of our Tampa Marine Terminal or Galveston, TX distribution facility. This position will cover our US Distribution facilities, including FL, TX, MN, KY, IL, and LA.  You will also, be eligible to work a 9/80 with every other Friday off.

In this role, you’ll train employees across operations, maintenance, and support staff using a comprehensive process focused on safety and operational excellence. Your training will cover health and safety hazards, personal protective equipment, orientations, mining equipment, and general safety practices. Additionally, you’ll serve as a resource for various work groups, conduct safety inspections, develop health and safety programs, and perform site safety audits to ensure a safe and productive workplace. Travel expectations: Travel within the continental US to support site activities. This will include extensive travel to Galveston, Texas for the first 6-12 months if Florida-based (greater than 50% anticipated), with anticipated travel of approximately 30% of the year thereafter.

What you’ll do:

  • Interact with workers in the field, discussing ongoing work and providing safe work guidance.

  • Perform inspections, observations, and assessments to identify and mitigate risks.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and point of contact for employee questions regarding workplace conditions and compliance with regulatory safety requirements, Mosaic’s safety rules, and the Mosaic Management System.

  • Ensure unsafe acts, conditions, or non-compliance issues are addressed.

  • Keep management and supervision aware of problem areas and develop action plans to address issues.

  • Contribute to incident investigations by gathering evidence and associated documentation.

  • Plan and coordinate investigations and facilitate them once fully trained.

  • Follow up on action items resulting from investigations and ensure proper documentation of corrective actions.

  • Contribute to safety reviews through the management of change process to ensure proper risk management.

  • Prepare materials for learning lessons, safety shares, etc.

  • Ensure communication of safety information through shift start documents and presentations during crew safety meetings.

  • Share lessons learned with other sites.

  • Review and develop site documents such as safety plans for specific jobs, site-level safety procedures, and safe work instructions.

  • Actively learn, participate, and engage others in the elements of the Mosaic Management System.

  • Coordinate site preparations for regulatory inspections and lead field tours with regulators.

  • Gather information and prepare responses for regulatory questions for review by senior health and safety leaders.

  • Partner with operations leadership to develop action items and resolve regulatory concerns.

  • Lead or participate in safety projects or programs, including SafeStart and the Action Based Safety Observation program.

What you’ll need:

Safety Specialist I

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or high school graduate plus at least 3 years of relevant experience.

  • Problem solving, presentation, written and verbal communication, and relationship building skills

Safety Specialist II

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field with at least one year of relevant experience or High School graduate with 5 years of relevant experience.

  • Team leader experience

  • Effective written, presentation, and communication skills across all levels of the business

  • Experience facilitating training

Safety Specialist III

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field with at least 3 years of relevant experience or high school diploma with at least 7 years relevant experience.

  • Advanced knowledge of applicable safety regulatory framework in the area of work (OSHA)

  • Individuals with specific facilitation or root cause analysis training are highly desired.

All

  • Industrial experience required, with the ability to work comfortably and safely in an industrial environment.

  • Travel within the continental US to support site activities. This will include extensive travel to Galveston, Texas for the first 6-12 months if Florida-based (greater than 50% anticipated), with anticipated travel of approximately 30% of the year thereafter.

  • Must be able to coach and influence others effectively, when not in a position of authority

  • MS office (excel, word, PowerPoint, and outlook), basic understanding of databases
