Areas of Focus
Provide support to EHS Manager through proper implementation of various EHS programs. Including IIPP, Respiratory Protection, PPE, Machine Safety, Lockout Tagout, Fire Safety, Ergonomics, Hearing Conservation, Forklift, Lead Monitoring and Prevention Programs, Industrial Hygiene, Wastewater Treatment, Hazardous Waste, Air Pollution Control, and Storm Water Pollution Prevention.
Responsibilities
- Chair the Employee Safety Committee
- Investigate injuries in conjunction with line and staff personnel, Human Resources and Medical Department.
- Assist in the evaluation of hazardous conditions and practices and develop hazard control practices and programs
- Complete Incident Notifications, EHS Alerts, and Root Cause Analysis
- Track various EHS corrective actions and track progress to completion.
- Develop and implement Environmental Work Instructions, SOP`s.
- Develop and implement various Environmental Programs.
- Develop tools to track and report out on various Environmental Metrics. Such as emissions, inspections, open action items, etc.
- Complete and/or oversee the completion of various Environmental Reports to regulatory agencies.
- Oversee and verify the timely completion of various environmental compliance records.
- Lead Environmental Teams such as Environmental Task Force Team.
- Conduct daily, weekly, and/or monthly environmental inspections
- Work with Environmental Technician to ensure various environmental inspections are performed as required.
- Coordinate and Oversee service providers conducting environmental services such as Source Testing, installation of Enclosures, equipment calibrations.
- Review and approve Work Permits to ensure environmental obligations are being met before authorizing work
- Ability to interact with various regulatory agencies and inspectors for the purposes of conducting compliance inspections.
- Review various Environmental Permits, conditions to ensure compliance
- Prepare air pollution treatment systems and equipment for annual source testing.
- Oversee the collection of storm water sampling and ensure treatment system is ready and in compliance.
- Keeps apprised of development in federal and state EHS laws likely to affect the company
- Assist in communicating hazard control information and evaluating the effectiveness of the controls
- Assist in coordinating safety and industrial hygiene services in conjunction with medical department
- Draft reports with lab test results and present to EHS Mgr. and Medical Department for review and approval. Interpret results in terms of potential impairment to health of employees and discusses impressions with management.
- Studies work operations, details of nature of the work, materials and equipment used, products and byproducts, and employee workforce profile. Industrial hygiene studies may involve exposure to dust, fumes, mists, gases, vapors, noise, heat, and cold
- Conduct supervisor and employee training and education in safe and efficient work methods, including safety orientation training of new employees. Assist with contractor training based upon the type of work to be performed. Assist with conducting audits of contractor’s files for compliance and documentation updates. Review and ensure Non-Standard Work processes are followed as required.
- Responsible for effective application of safety and environmental policies and practices and to investigate and eliminate hazardous conditions and unsafe practices
- Assist in reviewing, revising, and developing job safety assessments (JSA’s)
- May interface with regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, SCAQMD, EPA, Sanitation District, CUPA, Fire Dept., DOT)
- Comply with all Hazardous Waste governing regulations
- Handle all requests for SDS’s and perform semi-annual chemical audits including revision to the chemical inventory and maintenance the SDS database
- Maintain safety and environmental files, permit books and reference material
- Member of the emergency response team
- Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety & Environmental, Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or related field
- 5-7 experience in related field
- Knowledge of state and government regulations that affect safety and environmental
- Organizational skills & Excellent Follow-up skills
- Ability to deal effectively with people
- Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Access
- Good written and verbal communication skills are essential
- Project management skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bi-lingual English/Spanish
- First aid/CPR Trained
- Forklift instructor certified
