About the Role:

The Risk Manager will be responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of the risk management framework for the organization. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with the Central Bank of Brazil's Resolution 4557 and maintaining the financial stability and operational integrity of our Exchange Broker activities.

You Will:

Support the business to grow in a manner which is compliant and scales, and in line with our risk appetite. You will work with the business and Compliance to ensure Remitly manages the risks that it faces properly. You are in a senior leadership role focused on and responsible for ensuring that Remilty operations in the country are effective in countering the risks that our services might have considering the Brazilian regulatory landscape.

You will be an important risk management role with a broad remit and responsibilities including:

  • Developing and scaling the Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERM) for local entity;
  • Managing and setting the strategy for the local entity, considering the regulatory environment and mainly the Resolution 4,557 issued by the National Monetary Council;
  • Maintenance of Remitly's Basel Indices and anticipation of any possible issues related to the risk exposure;
  • Evaluation of Remitly's RWA to fulfill properly the DLO file to the Central Bank anticipating and mitigating risk events related to the Basel Indices being reported;
  • Managing local risk function including risk controls, setting & managing risk exposures mainly over environmental, liquidity, market and operational risks;
  • Developing risk identification and measurement tools ; 
  • managing deployment of risk tools and practices;
  • Performing risk assessments, analyzing current risks, and identifying potential risks affecting the entity;
  • Helping mitigate risks arising from internal processes, people and systems;
  • Investigating procedures & processes, appropriately document activities & identify appropriate controls;
  • Reviewing and evaluating new and revised processes to ensure the appropriate risk management oversight and infrastructure exist to measure, monitor, and control such risks;
  • Initiating and managing the annual risk assessment process and required reporting;
  • Informing and advising stakeholders, business leaders and their teams on the risks associated with various initiatives, such as products and growth in jurisdictions;
  • Managing and organizing continuous enterprise risk assessment process, including ongoing gathering of risk data, maintaining enterprise risk universe, and reporting to key stakeholders;
  • Developing and maintaining the Risks policies, procedural documents and related training materials.
  • Maintaining and developing the risk monitoring programme and remediation work.
  • Mitigating threats by developing risk maps, strategic action plans and monitoring risk mitigation effort;
  • Producing and distributing risk assessments and progress reports to the Risk Controls Committee, Executive, Board Members and employees;
  • Overseeing risk management and mitigation projects;
  • Keeping stakeholders and board members informed about the risk profile and assessments;
  • Advising the Board and Senior Management of risks to which the company, its representatives, customers and businesses might be exposed;
  • Building a culture of risk awareness by providing support and training to staff;
  • Facilitating the execution of risk management policies and procedures with the first line.

You have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in risk management within the financial services industry, with a strong understanding of Brazilian financial regulations.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing risk management frameworks in compliance with Resolution 4557.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
