Are you an engineer looking for a dynamic role where you can make a real impact on risk management and help our clients improve and prevent losses? If so, we are looking for a Risk Engineer to join our experienced team at If. You’ll work closely with Nordic multinational clients to assess and mitigate risks, particularly in the forest and process industries, while enhancing safety and sustainability across their operations.
Risk Engineer for Business Area Industrial
Probably one of the most interesting engineering positions, if you ask us. Insurance is nothing less than one of the main pillars of most businesses and If provides insurance products our clients need, but we are also managing risks together with our clients. In the best of worlds, large losses due to fire or machinery breakdown never occur, but they do, and that is why our Risk Engineers are so important.
Most of our clients are large Nordic based multinational organizations that set very high standards for their Risk Management operations. We provide guidance and help in this broad landscape of risk exposures and work together on how we can reduce risk.
To put this in an even broader scale as part of our responsibility to the society; preventing losses also prevents pollution and exploitation of scarce resources when rebuilding after a loss. Loss prevention is crucial for If’s sustainability strategy as any loss will contribute to increased environmental impact. Together with our clients we will do our best to avoid this.
About the role
Your main task will be to visit our client’s production sites to survey and assess their processes and risk exposures. What are their risks and how they can be prevented or mitigated. As a risk engineer you will primarily work with fire, electrical and machinery risks, but also any other risks that can cause physical losses or business interruption.
You will be using our tools for risk assessments and client consultations based on Nordic and International standards. We are working in close cooperation with underwriters, sales and claims units in what we call Client Teams. Together our focus is to support our clients on property and business interruption risks, as well as risks related to construction projects. The risk engineer’s assessments are a prerequisite in our business model when offering insurance to the industrial market.
About the team
If has by far the largest community of Risk Engineers in the Nordic Insurance market with close to 50 risk experts. While you will be part of the Finnish team in Espoo consisting of 10 Risk Engineers, you will be working in a truly international environment. Our technical background is a broad variety of engineering disciplines to understand the risks and businesses we insure.
In If we have an excellent culture for cooperation and sharing competence, and we often work interdisciplinary.
We offer
In the same way that we place high expectations on you as an employee, we also expect you to place high demands on us as an employer. Here are some of the benefits of working at If:
-
An inclusive work environment where everyone is welcome
-
Career and development opportunities in the biggest insurance company in the Nordics
-
Social activities, as well as highly skilled professional environment
-
Possibility of hybrid workplace
-
Health promoting workplace with e.g., wellness allowance and various sports activities
-
Great insurance benefits
Who are you?
You have a Master of Science or Bachelor’s degree in engineering of related field, i.e. forest (pulp and paper) or process industries, electrical, construction, fire, chemical or machinery. You might have experience in either production or consulting or both in the above areas.
It is not necessary to have experience of risk engineer work at an insurer, but it is important to have the willingness to become one. It is crucial to understand the circumstances and challenges our clients face in their operations to be successful in the role of identifying and assessing the clients’ risks.
You work independently, proactively and have good analytical skills. You are a team player and have highly developed social and communication skills.
