Within the Advanced Innovation division, the Algorithms and Applications (A&A) team is responsible for the research from idea to product level maturity on algorithms (sound coding, data science, diagnostics…)

The role is part of a small team of research Software engineers, whose responsibility is the creation of investigational device software and research tools using a variety of technologies, i.e. desktop, mobile, cloud computing and web. Specific to this role is the focus on application development in C#. This role specifically encompasses the software systems engineering responsibility that requires the person to have a very good view on the entire Hearing Implant system and to have a good understanding of the particularities of developing software in the medical industry.
 
To deliver swiftly on functional prototypes exploring new concepts and de-risking novel technologies, the research software engineer will often work within cross-functional research squads, consisting of members of various R&D departments such as A&A, Clinical Research, Customer Software and Embedded Software.
The engineer will be responsible for the full software prototype development cycle: design, coding, testing, verification, deployment, and documentation. He/she should be able to contribute to application code development in C# targeting the Windows platform. Being familiar with application code development in Swift targeting the iOS platform and cloud computing in Amazon Web Services is a plus.
Affinity with the hardware-software interface and a basic understanding of electronics technology is required.

The engineer needs to demonstrate a passion for lean research, eager to learn, and explore new technologies. He/she should be open minded towards incorporating research learnings in the next project deliverables, showing flexibility in dealing with evolving insights in the research topics and product concepts.

Minimum Key Incumbent requirements

  • Master’s degree in software engineering or electrical engineering

  • Good knowledge of object-oriented software development, specifically C#

  • Familiar with Agile development

  • Strong interest in and experience with quality management systems and standards for software design

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Affinity with the hardware-software interface and electronics technology

  • Ability to have a broad perspective on technical development.

  • Proven experience in handling requirements and design documents

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Customer oriented and innovation mindset

Ideal:

  • Experience with conducting research or working with research community.

  • Experience in mobile application development in Swift.

  • Experience with cloud computing, specifically the AWS platform.

  • Affinity with other programming languages like C++, Python and the MATLAB computing platform

  • Experience in medical device development and related standards (IEC 62304) and regulations.

  • Proven experience in design and architecture roles that includes collaborating in a cross-functional R&D environment that includes hardware, firmware, and software.
