The Machine Learning Department (MLD) at Carnegie Mellon University is a leading hub for research and education in artificial intelligence and machine learning. We are seeking a Research Associate to perform fundamental research in casual representation learning. This role will create AI systems that can learn not just statistical patterns, but also understand how different variables influence each other.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Designing and testing algorithm
  • Implement and test approaches for representation learning using modern deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Design and run experiments to evaluate approaches on both synthetic and real-world datasets.
  • Collaborate with team members to debug models, analyze results, and iterate on research directions through regular code reviews and research discussions.
  • Working closely with interdisciplinary researchers
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3-5 years of experience in machine learning, AI or a related field
  • Excellent interpersonal, organization, problem-solving and reasoning skills.
  • Experience with modern deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is proven may be considered.
