Major Responsibilities:

  • Performs monthly closing procedures, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliation's, supporting schedules and statistical analysis to ensure the accuracy of the financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP, governmental regulations, AAH accounting policies and the financial close schedule.
  • Prepares, reviews and analyzes financial statements and reports, including comparison to budget and historical trends, in accordance with AAH’s accounting policies and U.S. GAAP in order to ensure accurate financial statements in collaboration with the Financial Reporting Team for all internal/external reporting requirements.
  • Investigates, researches and participates in the development and implementation of new policies or procedures related to internal financial reporting matters raised by finance or operations to ensure financial activity is recorded in a manner consistent with Advocate Aurora Health’s accounting policies and procedures and U.S. GAAP.
  • Reviews assigned areas of responsibility for continuous process improvement and participates in the development and implementation of improved procedures.
  • Accurate and timely completion of and response to internal and external auditors’ requests and queries. Responds to requests and queries related to reporting and regulatory requirements. Prepares analysis of estimation and risk areas while providing input and recommendations for issue resolution to Accounting Management.
  • Responsible for ad-hoc reporting, analysis and special assignments, as needed.
  • Responsible for monitoring, evaluating, implementing and adhering to internal controls over areas of responsibility.
  • Prepares tax returns and schedules in collaboration with the Tax team.
  • Maintains job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.


Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • None Required.


Education Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.


Experience Required:

  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in accounting.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Demonstrated strong working knowledge of US GAAP and government rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general ledger and related financial and revenue cycle business intelligence systems (e.g. Workday and Epic).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate/collaborate effectively with all levels of staff, management, executives, providers, physicians and external organizations.
  • Self-motivated, results driven and detailed oriented.
  • Strong analytical skills with well-developed problem solving skills.
  • Excellent computer skills with a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar products.
  • Proactive, self-starter capable of working independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Position may require evening and weekend hours during month-end, quarterly and annual reporting periods.
  • Position may require travel which may result in exposure to road and weather hazards.
