About the role .
The Global Research & Development team at McCain's founding location in Florenceville, New Brunswick, is hiring a Measurement Systems intern for the summer of 2025 (May through August).
In this role, you will take on a range of responsibilities in support of various R&D projects. The team's primary focus is to research and develop new methods of measuring McCain products and processes. Your role would involve fundamental research, experimental design, data collection and analysis, and scientific reporting. You will also have the opportunity to work in a laboratory environment and on our pilot-scale potato processing line.
Accountabilities:

  • Designing and conducting scientific experimentation in a laboratory environment
  • Handling hazardous chemicals and conducting chemical analyses
  • Designing experiments and collecting reliable, accurate, and reproducible analytical data
  • Managing and statistically analyzing data and formulating evidence-based conclusions
  • Report writing and communication using scientific methodology
  • Fundamental research and literature review
  • Potato processing support in a small-scale manufacturing environment
  • Miscellaneous support (e.g., sensory assistance, product development, general facility support)
  • Gain hands-on experience in our corporate analytical laboratory
  • Enhance your understanding of how measurement technology is developed to meet different stakeholders' needs
  • Have an opportunity to conduct your analytical project with support from peers
  • Deliver project goals through collaboration & teamwork

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing bachelor's or Master's in food science, chemistry, biology, or a relevant field
  • Experience with analytical lab operations
  • Foundational knowledge of statistical and practical mathematical concepts
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Passion for delivering high-quality work
  • An interest in scientific design, experimentation, data analysis, and research.
  • A passion for detail and evidence-based research and design
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Good analytical laboratory practices (safety, preparation, documentation, proper use of analytical instruments, method validation, calibration, etc.)
  • Systematic approach to problem-solving
  • Advanced mathematical skills
  • Strong communication skills at all levels of the organization

Hybrid
Compensation Package: $23.00 - $26.00 CAD hourly
The above reflects the target compensation range for the position at the time of posting. Hiring compensation will be determined based on experience, skill set, education/training, and other organizational needs.
