We are looking for someone with a passion for Health & Safety and Training, for a supervisory level role in our Vancouver Flight Kitchen. Reporting into the Transportation Manager, this position is responsible for the Health and Safety program for over 100 drivers that operate in an extremely time sensitive industry.   You will assist the Transportation Manager by overseeing, coordinating and participating in all activities related to the department’s operations with a particular focus on Safety.  If you have a passion for safety and operations leadership, this is an opportunity to take your career to the next level.  We are a 24hr/day, 7 days per week operation. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures compliance with company, customer and regulatory safety / security policies and procedures through preventative and corrective action measures
  • Through various training methods including demonstration, you will ensure our team have the knowledge required to operate in a safe and secure manner at all times
  • Training of all new hires
  • Recurrent training of all existing employees
  • Conduct classroom training
  • Conduct on the job training
  • Conduct shift briefings on various topics
  • Ensures all training is documented and kept in an organized fashion
  • You will be visible in the operation and coach the team on the spot including reinforcement of good behaviours observed
  • Initiate progressive discipline when appropriate
  • Through formal audits and casual observations, you will constantly validate the results of our efforts to drive a culture of safety, security, and compliance to our customer’s expectations
  • Creating / reviewing reports
  • Responsible for investigation and documentation of all accidents and incidents to determine root causes and assists unit and regional management with developing corrective actions
  • Develops and implements best practices
  • Encourage team cooperation through briefings and leading by example
  • Communicate efficiently with the rest of the leadership team, employees and customers
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Must be flexible with scheduling and able to work a variety of shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays

Education:

  • Minimum qualifications include High School graduate or equivalent
  • Preferred qualifications include degree in the discipline of occupational safety and or risk management

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the field of safety and/or risk management an asset
  • Previous experience in airline, manufacturing, distribution operations or another fast-paced environment

Job Skills:

  • Proven leadership skills including the ability to mentor and influence
  • Superior analytical & problem-solving skills
  • Must perform administrative tasks accurately
  • Solid PC skills including MS Excel
  • Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DA (Airside Driver’s License)
  • You must be able to pass a pre-employment background check
  • You must be able to acquire and maintain a RAIC (Restricted Area Identity Card)

Language / Communication Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
