Impact in this Role:

Your role as a Quality Control Technician - Plastics will be to review the quality inspection of parts and documents provided by Fictiv’s manufacturing partners. You will bring knowledge of manufacturing quality issues and a keen eye for detail, to fulfill our promise of providing the highest quality parts to customers’ requirements.

The Quality Control Plastics Technician is focused on hands-on inspection, testing, and verification of plastic parts throughout the manufacturing process. The role is critical in identifying defects, ensuring compliance with quality standards, and supporting the overall quality control efforts within the production environment. This position requires attention to detail, familiarity with measurement tools and equipment, and effective communication with the production team to maintain high-quality output.

You will be instrumental in giving customers the confidence that Fictiv manages their parts to the highest quality standard. You will report to the Supplier Quality Engineer Lead working on-site from our Santa Catarina, México office.


Areas of Responsibility:

  1. Inspection and Testing:

Incoming Material Inspection: Verify that raw materials, such as plastic resins, colors, and additives, meet the required specifications before they are used in production.

In-Process Inspection: Perform routine inspections on parts during the manufacturing process, including visual checks, dimensional measurements, and functional tests, to ensure conformity to quality standards.

Final Product Testing: Conduct final inspections on finished products, checking for defects like warping, flash, sink marks, or other surface imperfections, and ensure that products meet customer specifications and industry standards.

  1. Measurement and Calibration:

Dimensional Measurements: Use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify that parts conform to specified dimensions and tolerances.

Tool Calibration: Regularly calibrate inspection tools and equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability in measurements.

CMM Operation: Operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) for more complex measurements and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

  1. Record-Keeping and Documentation:

Inspection Records: Accurately document inspection results, including measurements, test results, and any deviations or non-conformances found during the inspection process.

Quality Reports: Assist in the preparation of quality reports, providing data and observations that can be used for process improvements and audits.

Traceability: Maintain traceability of parts by ensuring that all inspection data is properly logged and linked to specific production lots or batches.

  1. Non-Conformance Handling:

Defect Identification: Identify and segregate defective parts during inspections, marking them for further review or rework.

Corrective Actions: Report non-conformances to the QC Supervisor or Quality Engineer and assist in implementing corrective actions, such as re-inspecting parts after adjustments or repairs.

Rework Verification: Inspect reworked parts to confirm that defects have been corrected and that the parts now meet quality standards.

  1. Support for Production and Process Control:

Process Monitoring: Monitor the production process for any deviations from standard operating procedures (SOPs) or work instructions that could lead to quality issues.

First Article Inspection (FAI): Perform First Article Inspections on new or modified parts to verify that the initial production run meets all specified requirements.

Communication: Communicate effectively with production operators, supervisors, and engineers regarding quality issues, ensuring that problems are addressed promptly.

  1. Maintenance of QC Equipment:

Equipment Upkeep: Ensure that all QC equipment, including measurement tools and testing devices, are properly maintained, clean, and in good working condition.

Inventory Management: Manage the inventory of QC tools and materials, ensuring that replacements and supplies are available when needed.

  1. Continuous Improvement:

Feedback Contribution: Provide feedback to the Quality Engineer or QC Supervisor on recurring quality issues or observations that could lead to process improvements.

Participation in Improvement Initiatives: Assist in implementing continuous improvement initiatives by contributing to root cause analysis, brainstorming sessions, or quality workshops.

  1. Compliance and Safety:

Adherence to Standards: Ensure that all inspection and testing activities comply with relevant industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company quality policies.

Safety Protocols: Follow all safety protocols and procedures during inspections and while operating equipment to maintain a safe working environment.

Desired Traits:

Minimum: 5 or more years of experience as a Quality technician or similar.

Strong knowledge in plastics required.

Knowledge in Injection molding process.

Preferred: New graduate with 2 or more years of experience.

Minimum academic: Technical career completed 

Strong English and Spanish business communication skills are required

Travel for this role:  15% local
