About Us

Capitalize is a mission-driven company solving critical problems in the $20 trillion retirement savings market with delightful products, scalable technology, and a world-class team.

At our core, we’re modernizing the $1 trillion in retirement account transfers (401(k) rollovers) that happen annually, a process that has traditionally been manual and paper-based. By doing so, we’re helping millions of Americans make informed financial decisions and avoid unnecessary fees and taxes.

Our Enterprise offering includes a full suite of enterprise-grade APIs used by leading financial institutions to help their users find and transfer retirement accounts as part of their core funding flows. Our Consumer offering helps individuals digitally locate forgotten 401(k)s and consolidate them into one of our brand-name financial partners.

We’ve raised $35M from top venture capital investors, including RRE Ventures, Canapi Ventures, Greycroft, and others. Our work has been recognized by TIME (100 Best Inventions) and Forbes (Top 50 Fintech Companies in the US).

About the Role

We are looking for a Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist. This is a hybrid role, requiring hands-on manual testing while also laying the foundation for automated testing. You'll work closely with engineering and product teams to improve our testing processes, increase overall application quality, and reduce risk when shipping new features.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to build a testing culture from the ground up and eventually scale automated testing capabilities.

What You’ll Do

As an early member of the QA team, you will have the unique opportunity to define and implement our QA processes from the ground up. You’ll not only execute tests but also shape the long-term quality strategy, working closely with engineering and product teams to ensure high-quality releases and an excellent user experience.

  • Manual Testing & Regression Testing
    • Perform regular manual regression testing to ensure the stability of our consumer, internal admin, and enterprise API products.
    • Identify, document, and track bugs, defects, and issues through resolution.
    • Test API calls using Postman and validate expected responses.
    • Triage real-time issues reported in help channels.
    • Lead integration testing with our Enterprise Partners.
  • Process & Documentation
    • Create and maintain test cases, test plans, and test scripts for new and existing features.
    • Manage and organize QA ticketing processes in JIRA.
    • Work with engineering and product teams to define risk mitigation strategies for new releases.
  • Automation & Infrastructure Development
    • Begin developing and implementing automated test cases where feasible.
    • Leverage testing frameworks that align with our technology stack (e.g., Selenium, Cypress).
    • Work with engineering to improve automated testing capabilities of our CI/CD pipeline.
  • Performance & Quality Assurance
    • Establish standards for performance testing across our applications and API.
    • Promote QA productivity through automation, tools, and best practices.
    • Own end-to-end functional and integration testing, ensuring high-quality product releases.
    • Work with product and engineering teams to ensure adherence to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and ADA compliance.

Who You Are

  • 1-3 years of experience in Quality Assurance or Software Testing.
  • Strong experience with manual testing, including functional, regression, and exploratory testing.
  • Familiarity with API testing tools like Postman and basic API validation.
  • Experience managing test cases, reporting bugs, and tracking issues in JIRA (or similar tools).
  • Some exposure to test automation (Selenium, Cypress, JUnit, etc.) or a strong interest in learning automation.
  • Experience or familiarity with accessibility testing and WCAG compliance.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum methodologies, participating in standups and sprint planning.

Bonus (Nice-to-Have) Skills:

  • Experience writing or maintaining automated test scripts.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and how QA integrates into them.
  • Any knowledge of performance testing tools or methodologies.

What We Do

We believe all Americans should retire with enough money for a life of dignity. Over time, we intend to eliminate all of the friction & fees embedded in the retirement savings system that stops them from doing so. Our first product helps people digitally locate their old 401k and transfer it seamlessly into a new account at any financial institution - without the paperwork, phone calls, and faxes of the past. In doing so, we’re automating the process by which $650 billion in 401k assets is transferred each year. We’re also making sure that the 15 million 401k account holders who change jobs annually don’t do the wrong thing with their assets - like cash them out, leave them behind, or pay excessive fees that erode their savings over time.
