Gensler is seeking a professional, motivated, and highly collaborative individual to join our team as a Public Relations Specialist, supporting our SC Health Sector Practice Area Leaders and our Austin office. The ideal candidate has a passion for design and views PR as a people-centered activity. They will work alongside our Regional PR Director and broader team to provide PR admin and related activities representing Gensler’s brand, reputation, and thought leadership in our markets. The Health Sector is Gensler’s newest sector with a robust and growing client roster. The Health Sector is composed of a passionate team committed to changing the world through the power of design. What You Will Do

  • Partner with the SC PR Director and Health Sector Practice Area Leaders on external strategies that reach their core audience(s).

Media Relations

  • Draft communication materials including press releases, project fact sheets, key messages and website content.

  • Field and manage media requests.

  • Prepare reporter briefing sheets and staff media interviews as needed.

  • Maintain media lists; research and add new reporter contacts as needed.

  • Track media placements and speaking engagements.

 Thought Leadership

  • Speaking Opportunities

    • Research and compile business, industry, and community events for speaking opportunities and/or office attendance.

    • Develop messaging or presentations for Gensler expert as needed.

    • Staff each speaking event to take photos for social media channels and manage onsite interviews with reporters if they are on site.

    • Coordinate sponsorship opportunities if previously agreed to by Managing Directors.

  • Blogs and Contributed Articles

    • Work with architects and designers to source ideas for articles.

    • Assist architects and designers with writing and editing.

    • Once published, track articles and post to social media channels. 

Social Media 

  • Maintain and develop content for our social media presence on office channels.

  • Work with local office to develop market-specific content, i.e. posts and videos.

  • Support with graphics/layout for posts.

  • Track views, engagement and performance of content (Sprout Social or other social media tracking platform experience required)

  • Attend office, industry and community events to capture content for channels.

Awards 

  • Work with Awards Specialist to review programs and projects.

  • Attend quarterly award platforms review meetings with Design Directors.

  • Manage submission content development and reviews with project team in the office, in collaboration with the Awards Specialist. 

  • Assistance in writing content, as needed  

Photography 

  • Provide administrative support to project teams for pre-shoot planning and coordination.

  • Attend and staff photoshoots, as needed.

Admin

  • Attend monthly check-in meetings with Managing Directors and Marketing Manager.

  • Compile weekly media placements, speaking opportunities, events, and award wins for This Week at Gensler report.

  • Compile weekly media placements, speaking opportunities, events, and award wins along with drafting LinkedIn captions for South Central News.

  • Compile industry and business articles for the weekly Industry Brief report that goes to Austin and Kansas City offices.

  • Work with other PR Specialists to maintain and update the regional PR Sharepoint site.

Your Qualifications

Public Relations moves swiftly to capitalize on the ‘right now’ opportunities – those opportunities shift by the day, sometimes by the hour, and you crave that part of the job.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field required

  • 4+ years of professional communications experience

  • Presentation: polished professionalism with a comfort level interacting with high-level executives

  • Communication: strong writing, editing, grammar and interpersonal skills. Ability to craft, prepare, and execute writing assignments (pitches, project narratives, blog posts, bylines) under deadlines

  • Organizational: ability to self-manage projects around expected delivery dates

  • Teamwork: works cohesively as a member of a broader communications team, pitches in to help others, forward-thinking go-getter; ability to adapt in dynamic settings

  • Client/customer service: understanding of public relations as a service to the region

  • Administrative: ongoing support of reporting materials on behalf of the regional PR team

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-growth environment

  • Able to handle sensitive information and ensure confidentiality
