Role
SP Energy Networks (SPEN) will be delivering over £10 bn of investment in the GB electricity grid over the next 5 years. A major part of this is delivery of the EGL4 HVDC link in Joint Venture with National Grid.
To deliver this flagship project we are looking for a Project Unit Manager to lead the Northern Onshore Cable works in support in the Eastern Green Link 4 project. The candidate will drive the works through the full project lifecycle from development into construction and operation to decommissioning.
What you'll be doing
Responsible for the effective team management of a number of direct staff and numerous indirect staff including all performance management and other HR processes are followed including all training and development requirements are identified and implemented .
Ensure delivery of key project outputs and incentive mechanisms within portfolio are in line with business targets.
Contribute to the out-performance of the EGL4 Project by identifying, promoting and implementing innovation, business efficiencies and value engineering across the project portfolio.
Ensure accurate capital expenditure forecasts and output projections on all portfolio projects, with full accountability for project, contractual and financial governance within project portfolio.
Promote and implement external/internal stakeholder engagement and community liaison for project portfolio, including ensuring compliance with Grantors Charter.
Ensure compliance with SPEN and Joint Venture Integrated management systems, required for the professional and efficient delivery of the investment programme, including externally accredited systems for Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality management.
Ensure a quality product is delivered successfully in compliance with quality procedures and inspection, witness & test plans.
Ensure Data and final records for all assets are entered into the corporate systems in line with required policy and associated timescales.
Drive continual improvement behaviour by identifying lessons learned and sharing these with the wider business. Project and contract reviews carried out timeously, to inform improvements for the remainder of the project.
Ensure best project management practice and behaviour is implemented across project portfolio including programming, financial control, change management, reporting and project closure.
Maximise the value of team by effective leadership and professional development of staff.
What you'll bring
Engineering degree qualified.
Significant experience in a line management position managing multi discipline teams.
Significant experience of project management of large scale 132-400kV infrastructure and/or customer projects with detailed knowledge of project and programme management processes.
A working knowledge of the technical characteristics and workings of the Electricity Transmission System.
A working knowledge of health, safety & environmental legislation, including CDM.
Commercial awareness of contract methodology, procurement processes and practices in SPT.
Developed negotiation and communication skills.
Ability to devise solutions to complex problems and challenges.
Minimum Requirement

Engineering qualification (BSc/BEng) and/ or postgraduate qualification (MBA, MSc) or relevant experience.

Experience in a programme management environment of multiple projects and disciplines.

Experience of managing a complex programme of contracts, multiple work programmes and commercial contracts.
