Job Description:
As a Tax Advisor and Coordinator, you will act as the main focal for all tax advisory needs of SBO Manila which includes among others acting as integrator and consolidator of all tax requirements during tax audits of the company by the BIR and the Local Government Unit of Makati. You will have the opportunity to work with a variety of stakeholders from FO, Country Tax Team, Contract Real Estate, and external PH regulatory bodies (BIR and Makati LGU). You will play a critical role on the following:
- Ensure providing tax advice to all the key stakeholders of SBO Manila under the supervision of the Country Tax Manage by way of dotted line which consist of both written and oral
- Attending meetings with Shell stakeholders under the guidance of the Country Tax Manager thru the dotted line to the CTM and join meetings with external stakeholders together with the CTM or any member of the Country Tax Team with approval of the CTM
- Consolidate, gather, analyze and integrate requirements for all axes under the National Internal Revenue Code i.e., Corporate Income, VAT, DST, Withholding Tax & Compensation Tax, Local Business Tax or VAT during tax audits
- Ensure proper handshakes are done with all teams involved in supporting tax activities for SBO Manila, streamlined coordination with feeder processes, and extensive familiarity of tax SOPs and work instructions in place
- Ensure feeder processes are updated as and when necessary, on tax requirements for SBO Manila
- Ensure timely submission of LGU requirements for SBO Manila’s license to operate and other local permits
- Coordinate VAT refund with MIT PH in consolidation of requirements and documentations
Where You Fit In
The Tax Advisor and Coordinator reports to the SBO Center Head of Manila and with dotted line to the Country Tax Team PH. The role will play a critical integrator and consolidator role, working closely with FO Process Teams (R&A Controllers, Cash Management, MIT PH, GSR, Contract Real Estate, AP) and Country Tax PH as well as externally with BIR and LGU. Maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders and the timely delivery requirements for tax compliance will be key to success in this role.
What's the role?
Tax Advisory and Coordinator services expected during audit or assessment, if any,
- Monitoring the local tax requirements including changes, advising on queries raised both by BIR and LGU, and validating the application form filled by the Contract Real Estate employees for Local Business Tax and the computerized assessment given by LGU. Country Tax Team will work closely in validating with R&A Controllers and Tax Advisor and Coordinator.
- Proactively monitor the local tax environment whereas liaising with representatives of BIR and Makati LGU on audit requirements (how, what, and in which format we should give the ask) will be with Contract Real Estate employees
- Coordinating the deliverables to BIR and Makati LGU within the deadline
- Making necessary and adequate preparations for audit
- Handling responses/queries/comments from representatives and queries from Shell on local tax matters
- Extend support by physically being available in the SBO Manila Office when BIR and Makati City representatives come for inspection during audit
- Internal Assessment of compliance with BIR, city municipal regulations, laws and standards
- Liaising with R&A Controllers for validation of financial data for local tax submission: The completed application and documents will be reviewed by R&A Controllers after validation by Tax Advisor and Coordinator including answering queries from R&A Controllers, if any. After this, the application and documents will go through final SBO Manila GM Review and approval
- Offer advisory services on the above subject matter and act as a Government Intermediary (GI).
- Maintain confidentiality of the documents shared by Shell
- Comply with Shell standards on government interactions and adhere to Shell policies
Contract Duration:
The services are required for a period of 2 years, with the option to renew based on performance and ongoing needs.

Analytical skills: Ability to analyze complex tax regulations and financial data
- Strong problem-solving skills to address tax-related issues and compliance challenges
Attention to detail: Precision in preparing and reviewing tax documents and filings
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to explain tax concepts and regulations clearly
Interpersonal skills: Ability to build and maintain relationships with both internal and external stakeholders and regulatory bodies
Technical proficiency: Proficiency in using tax software, ERP systems, and MS Office applications
Project Management: Skills to manage multiple tasks and projects efficiently
Requirements:
- A tax lawyer (preferred) or a tax accountant or both (CPA-Lawyer) with proven experience of working in tax advisory & tax disputes with exposure on management of tax compliance and tax advocacy with at least 3-4 years acquired from a tax firm, consulting firm, audit firm or MNCs
- Proficient and in-depth knowledge of tax laws (direct and indirect and local tax) and regulations to conduct and present analyses of data to support organizational management review, strategy assessment, tactics and policies specially for tax audit and disputes.
- Experience in drafting and preparing position papers, memoranda, letters to various government agencies such as the BIR, LGU, DOF and others that can articulate company’s position and requests as maybe necessary
- Proven ability to effectively communicate information to managers or less experienced staff, shares knowledge effectively within the work team and customizes reports, variance explanations, and presentations to the interests of the audience.
- Can write tax opinions and conduct extensive research as maybe needed in providing advice to the stakeholders
- Has established connections and contacts with various government agencies specially the BIR and the LGU (Makati)
Integration is a key component of this role, so a good understanding of the organization and established networks across Shell PH and external regulatory bodies is paramount.
