Job Description
🚀 The Job Mission: Project Manager – Pre-Operations
As a Project Manager (Pre-Operations), you will play a critical role in ensuring the seamless transition from commissioning to operational readiness at Hinkley Point C. This is an exciting opportunity to manage diverse projects that span fit-out works for permanent buildings, workshops, labs, and offices, as well as delivery of bespoke systems, such as dosimetry systems.
You will report to the Commissioning & Pre-Operations Senior Project Manager (SPM) within the PMO group and lead a small team, collaborating with Commercial, Technical, Finance, and Legal stakeholders.
What You Will Be Doing:
As the Project Manager (Pre-Operations), you’ll be responsible for:
Leadership and Delivery:
- Driving the timely and quality delivery of pre-operations project activities, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
- Leading a multidisciplinary project team, assigning clear roles and responsibilities, and managing resources effectively.
- Developing and maintaining the Pre-Operations execution plan, outlining the programme's management and execution approach.
Planning and Coordination:
- Producing and maintaining the Pre-Operations Project Schedule, ensuring timely delivery and readiness for contract need dates.
- Coordinating technical teams to define and deliver project scopes while managing interfaces with other programmes.
- Monitoring and managing progress against project milestones, deadlines, and budgets, and providing regular reports to stakeholders.
Risk and Stakeholder Management:
- Identifying and mitigating risks while ensuring projects meet business and technical requirements.
- Managing complex technical and commercial negotiations with suppliers and contract bidders.
- Engaging stakeholders to ensure alignment and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identifying and adopting best practices in project delivery to ensure efficiency and innovation.
- Contributing to the overall success of Hinkley Point C through proactive problem-solving and leadership.
Qualifications
- Project Delivery Expertise: Proven track record of delivering complex projects in regulated environments (e.g., nuclear, energy, infrastructure).
- Leadership Skills: Strong ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage stakeholders effectively.
- Technical Background: Degree in engineering or a related subject (preferred) and experience managing complex technical and commercial challenges.
- Procurement and Contracts: Experience in contract procurement and management is highly desirable.
- Safety and Quality Knowledge: Familiarity with Health & Safety legislation and a solid understanding of quality assurance processes.
- Project Management Credentials: Formal qualifications such as APMP or PRINCE2 (preferred but not essential).
Key Skills:
- Strong communication, presentation, and facilitation skills to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and project documentation.
- Exceptional organisational and problem-solving abilities.
