Overview of the Role :
 

The Project Leader Ammonia Compliance will be responsible for the implementation of the Environmental Emergency regulatory program pertaining to ammonia compliance within the Canadian Division. Maintaining active all the elements of PSM (Process Safety Management) and ARM (Ammonia Refrigeration Management) as it relates to our manufacturing and distribution facilities.

Work location: Although the primary work location is indicated as Saint-Leonard, our work location is flexible, offering the option to work from any of these Saputo sites across Canada: Edmonton, Saint-Hyacinthe, Saskatoon, Tavistock, Vaughan, Georgetown, Abbotsford, Brandon, Red Deer, Port-Coquitlam

*This is an 12-month contract position.

How you will make contributions that matter:

  • Ensure that Environmental Canada’s Emergency Regulation, PSM, IIAR ARM and/or other refrigeration program requirements are meet in relation to the company’s day to day operations;
  • Provide assistance in trouble shooting refrigeration system problems and develop plans/budgets for future improvements;
  • Promote the culture of Ammonia Safety by focusing of key aspects areas: Prevention, Preparedness and Response;
  • Establish strong communications with local maintenance managers, plant managers and regional VP’s;
  • Discuss with shareholders, requirements and develop scope(s) of work that will address and correct deficiencies;
  • Educate and train personnel on Saputo program aspects to include, operator training, SOP’s MOC’s, hazard recognition, incident investigation, mechanical integrity, programs elements and how to address gaps in the program;
  • Maintain oversight on Self Inspection Program (SIP), Mechanical Integrity(MI) and Process Hazard Analysis(PHA) reports and drive action plans to address the deficiencies;
  • Provide facility-level support for government (federal and provincial authorities) agency visits;
  • Communicate recommendations and action plans with the management team while ensure coordination and support with other departments;
  • Provide direction to Engineering, Maintenance and Contractors for all ammonia refrigeration projects/modifications;
  • Maintain a working knowledge and oversight of refrigeration systems,  federal/provincial regulations and applicable refrigeration codes and standards.

You are best suited for the role if you have the following qualifications:

  • Have a relevant science/engineering background, B.Sc., B.eng., PMP, or a related field
  • Relevant experience in industrial Refrigeration, or in environmental compliance
  • Health and Safety Acumen;
  • Ammonia refrigeration process knowledge;
  • Knowledge of process instrumentation, process drawings and refrigeration systems;
  • Emergency Response Planning experience;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with internal teams, regulatory agencies and external partners
  • Organisational skills and keen attention to detail
  • Bilingualism (French and English) spoken and written is mandatory if based in Quebec,as the project leader will interact with team, and other key parties across Canada; Other provinces: French is considered an asset not required.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to train on and implement new methodologies; 
  • Ability to travel across Canada and be away from home for a period of time (25%);
