Project Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and finalizing engineering projects according to strict deadlines and within budget. This role involves coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants to deliver projects according to plan. The Project Engineer will also define the project’s objectives and oversee quality control throughout its life cycle.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Cost Management – Implement cost measurement, control, and reduction programs related to process safety using EPIC (Evonik Project and Investment Controlling).  Create purchase requisitions as necessary and approve them under this position’s span of control. Control project costs by approving expenditures and administering contractor contracts.

Design/Engineering – Design and layout (as to general arrangement and detail) engineering work under minimum supervision.

Environmental – Incorporate and include environmentally compliant designs for all projects.  Participate in permit review with Environmental Engineer pertaining to project details.

Loss Prevention – Initiate, plan, promote and execute projects which maintain or improve the Loss Prevention impact of the facility.  Participate on or lead plant-level teams or committees as required. 

Document Control System – Ensure project documentation is uploaded in its entirety at project closure. 

Process Technology – Maintain technical expertise in current process / project technology.

Project Management – Manage all aspects of assigned projects within scope and Bayport’s standards; coordinate project tasks between differing function groups assigned to or affected by projects.  Develop operating procedures for projects, taking into consideration operations input.  Manage cost and budget of multiple active projects.

Responsible Care Management Systems - Any other responsibilities as specified under the Integrated Management System: Responsible Care, Quality and Energy Management Manual

Safety Systems – Lead and comply with PSM, BBPS (Bayport Basic Principles of safety) and any/all other company and regulatory safety standards as they pertain to implementation of the project.

SAP – Ability to write purchase requisitions and issue goods receipts.

Software Support – Ensure completion and accuracy of DCS program modifications as related to project installation.  Validate program modifications in cooperation with Operations.

Contractor Management Program - ensuring the contractors’, vendors’ or visitors are in compliance with all plant rules and procedures.

Challenges

Install designs that meet the needs of the business, are cost effective and are operations friendly.

Ensure that site compliance with safety and security standards comes before all other priorities.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering

  • Managerial, interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.

  • 5-7 years of experience as a Project engineer.

  • Knowledge of chemical plant operations.

  • Managing and liaising with outside contractors and suppliers.

  • Developing and executing projects up to $5M.

    PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Active PMP certification from Project Management Institute (PMI)

  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license

  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g. MS Project etc.)
