JOB DESCRIPTION
- Assists in the development of UL requirements, test methods, and test equipment. May exercise Project Handler Signature Authority as Project Handler of record responsible for opening, maintenance, completion, and closing of assigned new work engineering projects.
- Coordinates administrative aspects of project management. May serve as Project Handler of record and/or Reviewer of record as assigned.
- Establishes appropriate test programs by reviewing files and manufacturer's information, examining samples, and applying UL requirements. Is familiar with applicable standards, company manuals and appropriate technical literature. Examines samples for compliance with UL requirements and notifies client of any areas in which the product is not in compliance or of any changes in project scope or specifications.
- Initiates communication with clients to promote and explain the benefits of new and existing services. Follows up on contacts from clients. Communicates with clients to discuss technical issues, explain UL procedures and requirements, convey project cost, and negotiate completion date and sample requirements. Acts to address client concerns and to resolve client issues. Provides technical assistance to clients in reference to product inspection and follow-up services.
- Individual in this role will manage general execution and timely completion of engineering, witness testing and follow up services projects. Accomplished by analyzing project scope and determining project specifications, establishing test programs, analyzing test results, examining samples for compliance preparing reports for clients, maintaining subcontractor lab relationships, managing test sample logistics and ensure compliance to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Communicates project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports. Prepares Follow-Up Service Procedures and information pages.
- Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
- Resolves engineering issues associated with Variation Notices by analyzing and reporting on the acceptability of the variations.
- May perform quality and technical audits per UL's Data Acceptance Program.
- Leads operational process improvement through metrics, problem identification and root cause analysis. Including, developing and implementing corrective action(s).
- Takes an active role in helping drive continuous improvement throughout the organization.
- Directly coordinating laboratory activities with both UL-owned and subcontracted labs. Including, preparing data sheets, test instructions, scheduling, and performing witness testing activities.
- Travel up to 50% expected.
QUALIFICATIONS
- University Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or Physics from an accredited program plus four years directly related work experience.
- Detailed knowledge of the technical vocabulary common to the appropriate discipline.
- Working knowledge of conformity standards in use in area of expertise.
- Demonstrated ability to apply project-handling concepts in use in area of expertise.
- Strong communication, project management and organizational skills needed.
- Electrical background with high-power knowledge is preferred.
Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $91,900.00-122,500.00 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 10% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
