The Position
Arevon is recruiting for the position of Project Engineer on the Battery Energy Storage System Engineering team, an outstanding opportunity for individuals seeking an exciting, high-growth work environment in one of the most important industries for the 21st century.
Job Description
The Project Engineer will be responsible for providing technical oversite for BESS projects. The responsibilities include developing scope of work documents, reviewing design drawings, commissioning requirements, responding to technical RFI, and communicating with counterparties and internal stakeholders. The role requires detailed analysis and interpretation of civil, structural, and electrical Prudent Industry Practices. The role will be part of the Development & Construction team and will report directly to the Manager, BESS Engineering. The responsibilities of a Project Engineer include but are not limited to:
- Lead engineer reviewing the BESS and HV designs of utility scale projects. This includes close coordination with civil, structural, and electrical EPCs, Owners & Independent Engineers to ensure a comprehensive design package for Arevon.
- Review civil, structural, and electrical scope for use Request for Proposal (RFP) package submittals.
- Review and respond to technical RFI responses throughout the project lifecycle.
- Perform due diligence on project documentation, then catalog and communicate fatal flaws to management.
- Manage the EORs during the design phase of utility scale BESS projects.
- Accurately perform and/or manage the review of electrical design calculations for electrical loads, short circuit and device coordination studies, voltage drop, etc. using standard electrical engineering software in accordance with applicable codes.
- Provide accurate and timely engineering budget estimates for time and costs to sales or management based on available project information, knowledge, and preliminary calculations.
- Strong knowledge of applicable codes, standards, such as NESC, ASCE, ASME, ASTM, NEC, ANSI, IEEE. Familiarity with NERC.
- Able and willing to travel to construction sites.
- Collaborate with engineering, estimating and construction staff to document and develop company best practices and design standards.
Experience Requirements
- 8+ years of hands-on experience as an engineer working with solar, BESS, or another related industry required
- Professional Engineering Registration (PE), strongly preferred.
- Electrical testing and field commissioning experience, preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, highly motivated and results oriented, process oriented with strong organizational and communication skills
- Experienced in engineering project management philosophy and in managing EORs, conducting design review across disciplines, and in managing design trackers and risk logs
- Manage all resources internally or externally as necessary to prepare preliminary designs, performance estimates, cost estimates, and risks to be incorporated into binding and non-binding proposals
- Knowledge of engineering and renewable energy systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of AutoCAD design, ETAP or similar, CYMCAP or similar, PVsyst or similar, WinIGS or similar, preferred.
- Knowledgeable in physical substation design methods and their application, preferred.
- Advanced computer skills in MS Office, MS Windows, and project controls.
- Proficient or able to learn Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Aconex, and the like.
- Create and document early-stage 10% design layouts using desktop tools to analyze and highlight project risks.
- Develop standards and tools to perform analyses to increase design constructability confidence and optimize BESS performance against baseline finance assumptions
- Provide optimized equipment selection (BESS, MVT, GSU)
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, required
- Master’s degree in an Engineering or Mathematical Sciences required (Master’s preferred)
- Prior experience with development engineering responsibilities
