Position Summary

This position documents and analyzes financial information related to fixed assets, controls and financial compliance functions; budgets and consolidates capital expenditures (“CAPEX”); assists with timely and accurate completion of tax documentation, internal and external audits, and capex budgeting.

Essential Job Functions

  • Abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of SH&E principles and values; champions safety as necessary
  • Performs other duties assigned by management that fall within the generally expected scope of this position
  • Ability to immediately step in and contribute with minimal training and guidance
  • Functions for this position include primary responsibility for
  • Fixed assets accounting, reporting, and capital project tracking Tax preparation, accruals, and payments including but not limited to:  property, sales, state, local, federal, etc.) Coordination of reporting on monthly KPI’s associated with CAPEX (progress vs. budget) Coordination of consolidated reporting to parent company using their protocols and systems

Fixed Assets Accounting

  • Primary responsibility for fixed assets accounting; coordinates consolidated reporting to parent company using appropriate protocols and systems
  • Assist with the stock control process
  • Responsible for handling of property taxes
  • Supports and validates correctness of budgets, percentage of completion, project time schedule, project stages, spend accruals, internal hours capitalized and ETC
  • Manage the capex process (Global system of reporting)
  • Principle Tool Box Administrator for assigned project
  • Responds to inquiries regarding Net Book Value of assets
  • Reviews all CAPEX requests for proper authorization and budget compliance; maintains records and files for all CAPEX projects and budgets
  • Assigns Finance /Project Account numbers; creates Master Asset numbers in preparation for capitalization of new assets
  • Identifies assets for disposal or replacement
  • Liaises with Project Managers, General and Operations Managers, Sales, and Finance facilitating and problem solving for all capital projects
  • Reviews and approves depreciation reports and posting in accounting system
  • Capitalizes completed projects using accounting systems ensuring Company guidelines for new assets are utilized
  • Monitors all spending for ongoing CAPEX Projects ensuring budget and policy compliance
  • Oversees and approves preparation of reports for Controller for ongoing CAPEX projects
  • Performs on site audits of assets as required, preferably annually; travels to locations

Financial Reporting & Controls

  • Consolidates financial information as required; formats may vary according to need
  • Produces various management reports as needed
  • Coordinates Capital Expenditure budget process
  • Completes timely accounting, coordinates review and approvals of all capital expenditures and CAPEX budgeting
  • Allocates and accrues funds for various financial risk reduction measures (i.e., payment of taxes to various local, state, province, and Federal U.S. tax entities)
  • Allocates and accrues funds for various benefits and payroll entries
  • Manages and monitors the credit card facility
  • Responsible for managing the internal and external financial and tax audits

Experience Requirement

  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in company accounting with experience in cost accounting, project accounting, tax accounting, and auditing
  • Experience with petroleum, petrochemical, chemical and related industries preferred; international business experience helpful
  • Good understanding of GAAP, International Financial Reporting Standards, FASB, Sarbanes Oxley and similar regulations and requirements
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial systems; proven analytical skills
  • Proven ability to operate under stressful situations (i.e., multiple deadlines, multiple customers, and different conditions and formats of data)
  • In-depth understanding of financial reporting and financial management concepts (i.e., budgeting, return on investment, ROCE, cost of goods/services sold, profitability, KPIs, etc.)
  • Excellent computer skills, including ability to easily use MS Office suite; ability to create, read and manipulate Excel spreadsheets (Expert user in Excel)
  • Proficient user of Google Workspace (i.e. – Drive, Sheets, Docs, Meet, etc..)
  • Ability to read, understand, analyze, negotiate and report on standard or complex information of all kinds in English
  • Excellent English communications skills, both oral and written
  • Customer service focus including the ability to speak diplomatically; problem solver
  • Ability to multi-task; experience in project management
  • Experience in accounting with a joint venture

Education Requirement

  • College degree in Accounting or related area required 
  • Advanced degree in related area, CPA or equivalent experience preferred
