The Need

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a Program Manager, Resources Pathway to provide leadership in formulating, organizing, and monitoring inter-connected key initiatives within IJM’s priorities of the Resources Pathway, which is focused on projects including fundraising, marketing, and prayer. As part of the Enterprise Portfolio team, this role ensures that systems, projects, and processes are set up to enable the pathway to work efficiently and achieves IJM’s Resources Pathway goals. This position is tasked with coordinating cross-project activities to ensure timely and transparent management and reporting on priority initiatives. This role may support project-level work while also driving to build toward portfolio management, as needed.

This role will either manage projects or work closely with project managers across the pathway, collaborating with the Resources Pathway members and, when needed, will coordinate with other pathways or teams. They will develop and implement effective plans to manage each projects’ scope, timeline, budget, and progress. The position will ensure effective communication rhythms to keep project and program stakeholders apprised of project status and changes, facilitate meetings, and provide monitoring of deliverables to Resources Council and Enterprise Portfolio Management Office to ensure the work achieves its desired results.

This role is part of the Enterprise Portfolio Management team and will be a critical piece of building a united project and portfolio management approach across the enterprise. The ideal candidate will show experience in building and executing, bringing an energetic, relational, and strategic approach to their work. The ideal candidate will be an excellent leader and must be able to work with the Enterprise team to develop efficient and realistic processes to achieve results in a timely manner. Importantly, they will also have a constructive and imaginative approach to work, a willingness to take on tasks large and small, and the ability to engage professionally with staff from all backgrounds and levels.

This position is hybrid (onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays) if located in the Washington, DC area or remote for non-local candidates. It reports to Director, Enterprise Portfolio Management Office and is only available for candidates with the right to work in the US.

Responsibilities:

Strategy & Knowledge Development & Implementation:  

  • Lead the process to properly sequence of all work to be done with in the pathway to achieve pathway goals that ensures the best optimization of resources. 
  • Clearly disseminate in multiple formats, upwards and downwards, accurate data related to project obstacles, milestones, interdependencies, and budgetary issues.
  • Brief stakeholders, apprise of project completions, arrange for project success evaluation, training end user where applicable. 

Pathway Strategy Delivery:  

  • Collaboratively work with EPMO and other PMs, maintaining situational awareness of other teams’ projects, always identifying areas of project overlaps to maximize team efficiencies. 
  • Understanding of risks of each key initiative and ability to assess the impact of each risk to the pathway goals. 
  • Analyze project and pathway data to identify necessary risk escalation and needed actions, including decisions, reprioritization, and resource negotiations within the pathway. 

Measuring and Evaluation: 

  • Work with pathway project leaders to maintain their project/program documentation to inform critical decisions. 
  • Own the creation and monitoring of related pathway portfolio frameworks (charters, risk, issue, change logs, etc.).
  • Assess program performance and aim to maximize ROI. 
  • Prepare reports and dashboards for pathway leadership. 

Communication:  

  • Organize planning, delivering, monitoring, and revising communication, both internally and externally, to ensure its flow from top to bottom clearly. 
  • Responsible for communicating critical issues and suggested mitigation plans to pathway leadership to optimize the pathway strategy.

Participation in IJM’s community of spiritual formation.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or similar field, or any equivalent of combination of education, experience and certification.
  • At least 3-5 years of project management experience, ideally with experience in the nonprofit sector.
  • Holds recognized project management, Resources management, or equivalent credential (including PMP, PMI-PBA, PMI-SP, PMI-ACP, Prince 2) or eligible and on track for certification, preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of project/program management techniques and methods.
  • Ability to receive guidance and subsequently work independently to implement key initiatives.
  • Ability to inspire staff to be collaborative, efficient and create a sense of community and teamwork.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Positive attitude and inspiring personality.
  • Ability to create process documentation, technology curriculum materials, and training artifacts.
  • Familiarity with project management software and tools. Smartsheet expertise preferred.
